Surprising the kids....

I need your help. We are going on our 1st WDW trip with our kids this June. I have twin boys who will be 6 next month. We are telling them about the trip on their birthday which is about 3 weeks before our trip. I know I read previously somewhere on this board where someone said they told their kids about the surprise trip by purchasing a recorded phone call from a Disney character. Does anyone know what this is? I would love to have Mickey call them!

I do recall seeing it awhile back, but don't know the details for it. If I come across it, I'll let you know.

There are other threads about how to tell your kids, i.e. give them theme park maps in a box, personalized shirts.

You could also have a relative call and pretend to be a character. Keep us posted! I want to know their reaction!

For our first trip we bought suitcases (smaller pull ones) and wrapped all kinds of "presents" for them inside. They didn't get it until the last few (they were 7 & 10), but when they did, they were super excited

Some of the things were...a new bathing suit, sunglasses, a hat (to shield their little heads ) etc....and then the ones that gave it away were for the older son we gave him the WDW For Kids/By Kids guide book and the younger one got a sing-a-long tape of WDW. They also each got an envelope of Disney Dollars.It was fun atching them open the stuff and trying to figure out why they were getting all this stuff....and then they got it!

For our first trip I set a a scavenger hunt around the house - at the end they found child sized suitcases filled with Disney stuff. I got T Shirts from the Disney store, Disney dollars, and then I ordered autograph books, fat pens, and Epcot passports from Gifts of a Lifetime. The suitcases were in a room with a computer on which I had set the countdown timer, so they could see we were leaving in 6 days.

Hi pat fan, good to see another Patriots fan around! We are planning to do something similar only I got these Mickey gift bags and am putting lots of Disney things in them (including Disney Dollars) Your idea of the little rolling suitcases is a great one too.

Plantlady, thanks for the link! I am not sure if that is the site I saw mentionned before. I know that the person I read used the call to announce their trip but after browsing the site, I don't see that option. Oh well anyway it's a really cool site and I am planning on having Mickey call and wish them a Happy Birthday.

mousehousemama, we had told them they would have to wait until their brother would be 4 which is at least 2 1/2 years from now. They are going to be completely shocked. I can't wait....only 3 1/2 more weeks until we tell them....we leave on our trip 6 weeks from tomorrow!!!
