I was wondering if you all surprised your child about the trip to Disney in some way or how did you let them know? Our DD is 4 1/2 and I want to surprise her some how about the trip since it's her first so I have thought about waiting till it's closer to time (we leave Nov 10) or should I wait till we leave the night before or the morning we fly out.

Thanks, Susan

If I could keep a trip to WDW secret to save my life, which I can't, I think it would be great fun to have her wake up to her suitcase- with a Disney balloon, plush Mickey, photo or postcard attached to it- sitting at the end of her bed and a note that says "Get dressed and packed!"

See...the surprise is a great idea in theory, but then you miss out on all of those opportunities to dangle Mickey in front of them as incentive to be good. :rotfl2:

I always tell them a little ahead of time and we make a paper chain and talk about everything we are excited about. My older one really loves that.

We are surprising them with that Playhouse Disney Live show this weekend, and we've just decided to show up and sit down and see what happens! You could do something like that! Oh, once we also had Mickey call my son the day we were leaving. He really liked that...I can't remember how you set it up, but it's online. It would be a good way to do it, too.

Whatever you do, your dd will be overjoyed!

We are taking our 2 ds, 9 & 5, on their first trip in three weeks. We are going to surprise them and telling them we are driving them to school and then take them to the airport. We are not going to tell them until they are at the gate where it is we are going...actually, my mom is in DW now and is going to send me some mouse ears to hand them. I am hoping it won't backfire on me!

Honestly it depends on the kids. When I was younger I would have been upset. As excited as I would have been about going, I would need at least a week to get mentally prepared to go, my sister is the same. My brother though would have been thrilled to have been told at the airport though.

We are telling our DD the day we leave (it's what we did last year too). We woke her up the morning we were leaving, to tell her and left a few hours later for the airport. We just woke her up by asking, do you want to go to Disney World and go see Mickey? We had everything packed and ready to leave, with a back pack filled with new goodies in it for her. She was thrilled, and there was no nagging about going! No 'is it time to see Mickey yet?' countless times a day. :rotfl2:
