I'm going to Disney World with my grand kids in October. They don't know yet. My grand kids are 4yo and 6yo and I want to do something special to surprise them. Any suggestions?

Following along. Taking my grands (6,6 & 4) and their parents in January. So far I've bought everyone T shirts, Mickey/Minnie tote bags for the kids and other Disney "stuff." Planning on telling the kids Christmas Eve when the families come to our house. Haven't figured out the big reveal! Hope to see some ideas here!

The first time I took my oldest nephew (4 at the time) I got him a suitcase for his birthday and it was filled with fun little disney toys and some things he would need for the trip and a birthday card from mickey mouse saying he was excited for him to visit.

The second time (he would be 5 on the trip but was like 4.5 when he found out) I made a personalized calendar and special stickers for different activities for us to do through the year (most were ones we do normally like go see a movie, bake something etc) and one of them was for a trip to disney. SIDE NOTE: the reason I did it this way is they were trying to work on instant gratification and help him understand he can't always go and do what he wants right now so it was to help in the idea of "looking forward" to special things etc. Not really relevant to your situation but a countdown or calendar can be really fun after the big announcement.

This time we are taking both boys 5 and 2 and it is a surprise for their grandparent so we aren't telling them until the day before to make sure they don't spill the secret. I am still in the process of making everything but I am making a scavenger hunt through their house with clues (sight words 5 year old is working on reading) which will lead to a box with a mickey balloon and some other balloons with the news that they are going to be leaving in the morning.

I have a friend who had custom cookies made that had a mickey head for each person going on the trip and their name and then a center cookie that said they were going to disney world.

I saw an idea that I considered but the timing didn't work (we have a 6am flight out) which is to decorate the dining room and make a disney themed breakfast and tell them then.

Good luck however you tell them whatever their reaction it will be a great memory. When the nephew got the suitcase full of stuff and we read the card from Mickey to him he just said okay and asked about if he could open the pretend fishing game that I had put in the suitcase LOL However he has been much more excited since now that he knows exactly what disney world is.

Don't forget to record the moment you tell them. A memory to last a lifetime
