Surprises after the cruise

I've read on different threads about people receiving "surprises" in the mail from Disney after their cruise such is CD of cruise tunes, recipes, ect. Is this just random occurances? Does it seem to be determined by stateroom cat.? Also are you automaticly a castaway club member once you've sailed or do you have to sign up somewhere?

we sailed cat 6 in oct 2004 and recieved the cataway club pack in the mail about a month after we got home - it included our club card with the number on it - and a cd with the tunes and screensavers - as well as postcards to get cruise info sent to family or friends

we didnt request this - just showed up

Surprises....I think people use that term because they are really SURPRISED when they actually get their CC cards and info packet in the mail....since DCL is notoriously inconsistent with sending this stuff out.

It seems random...some people get it right away, some months and months later, and some none at all. Believe me I am not bashing DCL...it is my favorite vacation of all time and we have sailed since day one of its conception back in 1998. Since then we have sailed 13 times on DCL and we have only ever received one bit of info in the mail from the CC club (back in '98)....never a CD. This is just one area that they really need to focus on.

And, in answer to your other questions...you become a CC member automatically after you cruise the first time...you do not have to sign up for anything. All you have do if you cruise again is to make sure DCL is aware that you have cruised before and that they note your CC club number on the new reservation. You can call DCL and get that number after you sail...because you might be holding your breath waiting for them to send it to you!!! LOL!!!

P.S. It has nothing to do with stateroom category.

I was hoping for one of the "little souvenirs" but alas, no luck.
Anyway, we DID get a "coconut" with the recipe for the Palo's Chocolate Souffle today in the mail. DH and I are already castaway club members but sailed again on 2/5/05 so the mailings aren't just being sent to new Castaway Club members. My favorite part is the ending -- after the recipe it says, "Instant Palo Souffle 1. Go on a Disney cruise. 2. Dine at Palo. 3. Order souffle." Sounds like GREAT advise to me!!!
