I am a very picky eater, but DH wanted to try Boma this year. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I kept an open mind & figured as long as I was paying $24 for a meal I was at least going to try things. Well, I tried just about everything they had & really enjoyed a lot of it. I even went back for 2nd's on a few things.

The desserts were great - everyone is right about the zebra domes - they were outstanding.

After dinner DH & our 3 DD's took a leisurely stroll outside to look at the animals grazing. It was a very relaxing & enjoyable evening. I would recommend it - even to the picky eater! ;)

Thanks for the report. We will be staying at AKL May 9-10 and will be having dinner and breakfast at Boma. My husband is a real "meat & potatoes" kind of guy, nothing fancy for him, and my DD (14) is VERY picky. I was a little nervous about how they will like Boma. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

I am exactly the same way. I have gotten a little less picky over the years, but I am not an adventurous eater in any way. Poor DH. There are so many things we *can't* eat because of yours truly.

But I LOVED Boma! For our honeymoon last July, I promised DH that I would try to be more daring. :) We went to Boma our first night, and it turned out to be my favorite meal in all of the World! It will definitely be a must-do for all future trips!

Is the food at Boma really that different? Can someone comment on the type of food please.

I didn't think there was anything outrageously different, they just seem to use different spices. I'm not a chef, but I'm guessing curry & ginger, although I could be wrong about those spices.

I enjoyed the marinated flank steak, which was quite spicey. DH was not too thrilled with it. The chicken was outstanding. They had a few rice dishes & one of them was amazing (I can't remember the name of it). It was very sweet (I have a definite sweet tooth):D One of my DD's loved it also.

Their soups were very good also. One was some kind of "corn porridge" & was delicious. I don't like coconut but I tried the coconut seafood soup & it was pretty good. That had another one with a red broth that was spicey but I enjoyed it. DH was not too fond of it. They had a potato dish that was very good (similar to fried or oven roasted potatoes).

The desserts were delicious. I was very skeptical about spending the money for me to eat there, but was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. In fact, after leaving I said I would definitely go back again & my DH (who wanted to try it) & DD's said they didn't think they'd go back. Go figure!!

It's funny. DH wanted to try Mexico this trip also & I was a little leary because of how picky I am. I loved my meal, he said his was okay!! :p

We had two wonderful dinners at Boma in February. Went at the beginning of our trip and enjoyed it so much that we went again at the end of our trip.

Food is not too highly seasoned. Chefs there said the food is based on authentic African cuisine, but the flavourings and spices aren't as hot and spicy as those in Africa, they have been 'adapted' for American tastes.

Ann.
