surprise vow renewal for parents

Hi everyone..This is my first post! I have a question for all of you experts out there!! Hopefully you can help me!

We are DVC members and planning on going to Disney in November. This will also coincide with my parents' 30th wedding anniversary. My parents are wonderful to me and providing me with an amazing wedding next year and I would like to do something special for them for their 30th. We had a big surprise party for their 25th so I was thinking something more low key for their 30th.

1. Am I able to do a vow renewal using an outside person instead of Disney Wishes? The prices are very expensive for me right now.

2. If not, am I able to have an Illuminations private dinner or something like that set up or do I need to be doing a wedding event through Disney to have something like that.

3. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do in Disney to celebrate their 30th? Any suggestions would be AMAZING!!

Hi! How kind of you to want to plan something for your parents!

1. Am I able to do a vow renewal using an outside person instead of Disney Wishes? The prices are very expensive for me right now.

Were you looking at Wishes ceremonies or Escape? The latter starts at $4,750—still a hefty sum, but not as high as the $10,000 minimum for Wishes.

Disney policy is that all on-site ceremonies must go though them, and anyone caught holding an unauthorized ceremony will be escorted off property. Whether this is enforced is open to debate, and you will hear about people who held their own ceremonies in hotel rooms or on the Grand 1 yacht. However, many of the people on this board are shelling out the dough to have an official Disney's Fairy Tale Wedding, so it can be a hot-button topic here.

Shades of Green and the Swan & Dolphin do offer legitimate on-property alternatives for less. If you have a military or government sponsor, you can do SOG's ceremony package for $895. Events at the Swan & Dolphin start around $1,600.

2. If not, am I able to have an Illuminations private dinner or something like that set up or do I need to be doing a wedding event through Disney to have something like that.

Anyone staying at a Disney-owned resort can plan a private event like an IllumiNations dinner by calling 321-939-7278. They just can't help you do anything really wedding-y—you would be referred to Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings. But an anniversary party is no problem.
