So I just booked hotel and flight for a surprise trip for my wife's birthday. Disney side day falls right between her birthday and our one year wedding anniversary so I couldn't resist!

That being said I want to have a surprise party with friends before we leave. Backyard BBQ type party. Of course when you have that type of get together, people bring gifts and I was thinking of doing a disney theme. So it would be awesome of gifts were disney too.

I stumbled across the disney registry that they suggest for anniversaries etc too. But I've never done a registry for anything but a wedding. But to me, how cool would it be to have friend get her special disney gifts she could use in the parks?

So question is, do I set that up or is a disney gift card a good suggestion? To me gift card sounds boring but buying disney stuff for someone before they go to the park is a waste.

So do I do the registry or just suggest disney theme and hope people take the lead on it?

How can you go wrong with Disney gift cards? Have a great trip! That's an awesome gift!

You definitely can't go wrong with GC! And they're available everywhere.

But the registry page looks neat to. Let's people buy in increments towards souvenirs, character meals, tickets, experiences, etc.

Honestly, I wouldn't ask for any specific gifts or set up a registry. Maybe that's just me. If people ask you what she would like, then by all means tell them your idea! But you know your guests best. If you think they would like a registry, then go for it.

I think the Disney theme is super cute and will give people a big clue as to what she would like.

Agreed. That's what I was leaning toward.

I just don't want people to buy plushes or something bc she would prob wanna get those on her own in the park where there are more options. Suppose you could return them haha or exchange.

I wouldn't do a registry if it wasn't a surprise because people asking for their own presents is weird.

I actually like when people have registries or a note about gifts. It makes so much easier to buy for them.

And in this case it's adding to the surprise.

I guess it depends on the person. But you don't HAVE to participate in the registry.

Agree. I don't think setting up a gift registry would be the thing to do. Make the party Disney themed, let people know about your trip, and let that be that.

thanks for the input.

I think I will create it and if people ask for gift suggestions I'll tell them about site.

Still very excited for the trip!

That's a great idea.

Have fun planning, sounds like an awesome birthday/anniversary celebration :goodvibes

I think Disney gift cards as suggested gift is good. As far as registry...instead of "Disney Items" as gifts - what about "Trip Items" as gifts...Maybe a new handbag / tote bag to carry around park - Disney t-shirts to wear in park - rain poncho's, carry-on bag for plane (if flying)....stuff like that to help make the travel more enjoyable...even things like an autograph book or some pins for trading might be fun...

When we gave a wedding gift through the Disney wedding registry I'm pretty sure that they told them what item we selected, but I think what they actually sent them were gift cards equal to the value of what we chose.

I'd just go with the Disney gift cards - when I retired people knew we were going to be living in our motor home and giving me things wasn't practical. They knew we went to Disney every year, so I got lots of gift cards. It was great fun spending them on our next trip on things I might not have convinced myself to buy.

Have a great trip!!!
