SURPRISE!! Family of the Day at the Contemporary Resort

My DW and I surprised our 3 DS's on July 5th with a long-weekend trip to the Contemporary Resort. After a long 8 hour drive from Myrtle Beach, SC, we finally arrived at the Contemporary. We were "Welcomed Home" by the gentleman at the entrance. The gentleman took our family name and confirmed we had a reservation. Walking up to the check-in counter, I noticed a lot of hotel staff coming around. As I was giving our info for check-in, I heard a loud "Surprise" and then my family started to yell in dis-belief. The hotel mgmt / staff announced to my wife and boys that the CAMUT family was selected as "Family of the Day" at the Contemporary!! They gave my boys bouquets of Mickey balloons and took some pictures and threw some magic dust over us!! BUT - the BEST benefit of being "Family of the Day" was that we were upgraded from a garden wing room (basis room) to a fantastic room on the 10th floor of the main building with a Magic Kingdom view!! WHAT A SURPRISE !!!! Got to enjoy the fireworks from our balcony for all three nights!! How amazing!!

Our name was also on the electronic screens through out the resort all day on 7/5 as well.

Needless to say, this was the absolute BEST trip we've had to Disney World in the past 10 or 11 times we've been there.

Has anyone else ever been selected as Family of the Day at a Disney resort?! If so, what was your experience?

Can't wait to visit again next year!!

We were chosen as FOTD at Yacht Club in April! We were shocked when we got a whole mess of balloons. We got to our room to see that the view had been upgraded, and there were more balloons and a white chocolate Minnie Mouse treat with chocolate covered strawberries!!

It was awesome!!!!

We were selected as the Family of the Day at AKL. No balloons, but we were upgraded from Savannah view to a 1BR Club Level Suite!!! It was fantastic

We were selected as Family of the Day at CSR but all we got was balloons a picture of the fab 5 and a room all the way over at the end in Ranchos that we had to to walk to in the pouring rain. Now if family of the day included a room upgrade that would have made it way more exciting.

That is wonderful!!! We were Family of the Day at YC and got upgraded to a suite that was the size of 5 standard rooms - 2 balconies, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and a huge living room. It was incredible! So glad to hear they do it at other resorts too! Congrats!

DH and myself were Family of the Day at YC this past January. We didn't know that type of thing happened, much less to a couple without children.

It was one of the most exciting days of my life.

Kind of ironic since, on arrival, while walking into the hotel from the parking lot, DH was complaining "we never get upgraded", which IS SO NOT true since we had a nice upgrade at YC on our previous trip at the end of Oct. 2012. I reminded him of that.

We were greeted at the door by a CM with a clip board, and she escorted us to the front desk. I kind of thought that it was taking a little longer than usual to get checked in, then several CM's came out of a side door with balloons. We still didn't have a clue what was going on. Finally they told us, we were upgraded to club level, and gave us the balloons and we had our picture taken.

Also, DH was celebrating his birthday, so we got more balloons when we went to lunch at the Captains Grille.

I kept asking DH if he thought we would get to keep the upgraded room for the whole week, or if they were going to come and move us the next day back down to the level we paid for.
