Surgery Day!

Today was Jacka's surgery. He did great and is now resting on the couch and watching Cars. Thanks for all the prayers and pixie dust! He has already had some milkshake and ice cream. Too bad they are not Mickey bars!

We are having a terrible time getting Jacka to take his pain medicine. Poor man, I remember how icky this stuff tasted as a kid. On hold with the doctor now to make sure it is okay to mix the meds with something in an effort to get them into him.

Boy, that sounds like some of my dds when they were younger. Any chance they might have a liquid version for him to take?
Hope he is feeling stronger tomorrow!!

Glad the surgery went well. Hope there was a way to get the pain meds into him. Why can't they make the necessary meds taste better so we can get our children to actually take them. Prayers for a quick recovery.

they taste bad so the kids don't help themselves too them which would be alot worse.

if it is liquid try using a "shot" thingy to give it - that works best with my boys - having a glass of water (or something they really love) to drink after to get rid of the taste helps too.

I am calling the pharmacy this morning to see if we can take it back and they can flavor it. He cries at medicine time, which makes him cough and his throat hurts worse. Man I will be glad when he can swallow pills!

How is Jacka doing today? Sure hope the pharmacy can help flavor it... or maybe tell him that he can have a popcicle with it... not that it will help much but at least I was getting a reward afterwards...

Success! It is a 3 part system, but it resulted in DS taking his medicine without a battle!

1. Medicine is now flavored and chilled in the fridge.

2. Patient's tongue must be coated with chocolate syrup.

3. Follow medicine with lots to drink!

Glad to hear you could get it flavored. Morgan HATED the taste of one antibiotic, we had to get it flavored in order for her to take it. That was the year she had 5 ear infections in a row...Yuck!

The things we do for these kiddos... I just strained chicken noodle soup so it was all noodles! lol Reminded me of Friends...I kept hearing Joey say, "Mmmm...noodle soup!"
