We're staying at the GC next week (July 14-21) and we have a couple of non-park days planned. We've been scoping out the beaches as we have a beach day planned, and our DS18 is making noises about trying his hand at surfing. He's never done it before but is very good snowboarder and water skier. Can anyone suggest a beach in the area with surfing lessons. Frommer's mentions Manhattan Beach - are there any others? Thanks.

My kid wanted to take surfing lessons also (just got home from CA last night.)

I did some research and found that surfing lessons are somewhat expensive. Expect to spend ~$200-350 for a 2-3 hour training session. We decided not to spend the money but our research had narrowed our choices down to the below 2 instructors which are both within a few minutes of the disneyland area. Dangerwoman seemed to be a better school but Surfschool.net was much more affordable.

We spent several days at Huntington Beach and just loved that. There are surf rental and surf schools all along the beach. For more specific information, though, the city's web-site is www.surfcityusa.com and is loaded with info that can help you.

I live in San Diego but had a private 2 hour lesson with a surf instructor for $100 on my birthday this year. I was standing up on the board and riding the waves into the shore within an hour. I had never been surfing before.
