Surf Lessons at Typhoon Lagoon

do they help the kids catch teh waves at all? or are they totally on their own out in the pool? I would probably just let my DS11 do this and watch to keep the cost down but I envision he would have a tough time paddling into the waves to catch them at first.

dd took the surf lessons a few years ago and loved it! She got her "Gidget" surfing certificate. It was very early in the morning. And she was so tired of carrying her board but she had a blast!

I emailed the surf program for details and they emailed me a flyer. I can't paste the whole thing in here but here is the text copied from the flyer:

The Learn to Surf Program
Hang ten in the Waters of Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon! Surf the wave pool before the park is open so that you can master the fine art of shooting the curls. Professional instructors and small classes are included in this two and a half hour session, which consists of half an hour land instruction and two hours of water instruction.

It’s totally tubular!!!

Ok I booked this for my DS11 yesterday for the end of August. I have just one more question though that i'm hoping Chesire could answer. The woman on the phone (very helpful and nice) told me that everyone who enters the park that morning needs a typhoon lagoon ticket but does not have to surf or pay to surf. The question I have is this, we have about 4 people in our party that would have 0 interest in doing the waterpark that day or any day during our trip for that matter, but 100% interest in seeing my DS11 surf. I know you can just go to watch, but I thought from what i've read here that you don't necessarily need to have a water park ticket for that day :confused3

I know you finish up before the park opens and you mentioned they escort you outside to the gates about 15 minutes before 9. The 4 people would go if they didnt' need a ticket, but I doubt it if they need to buy a waterpark ticket just to go and watch him surf. The CM said she "thought" they needed a ticket but wasn't sure. Thanks in advance.

My son has done the surf lessons twice and it has been one of his most favorite experiences. You do not have to have a ticket to be a spectator. They do escort you out of the park when the lessons are over. I will warn you that you must bring your credit card with you. When you make the reservation they just hold the spot with the card, you do not pay for it until the day of the lesson. There was a very angry guy at the lesson that did not bring his card with him. The instructors are awesome!!!! I highly recommend it.

You do not have to have a ticket to attend as a spectator. After the lessons are over the entire group is escorted out of the Park. The re-enter as a regular Guest you must have a ticket.
