What I'd like to do is...
My whole family (there were 16 of us) went to Hawaii well at teh time we we're thinking of frequent flyer miles

well now we have a trip planned to WDW in OCt. I checked the website for United but couldn't find what I was looking for so I called and they told me as long as I still had my tickets I could sign up for the miles and could get the miles to Hawaii!!!!

yeah hurdle one passed

now onto the next
I did see on the web that someelse could gift you there miles!!!
well with just the trip to Hawaii we almost have a free trip.

so if some one out of our group would give us there miles we could wind up getting the air free

If Im thinking everything will go the way Im' hoping.

Is this realistic or am I just dreaming?

INstead of free trips with miles can you get discounts based on the number of miles you have?

Some airlines (Northwest in particular, possibly others, I just know about NW) offer "Cash and Miles" rates, which are fares that have a set cost, part of which is paid in dollars, part is paid in miles.

You may also have enough miles with the airline to qualify for elite status, which means you get some extra perks, but not necessarily discounts.
