So I've been planning this trip since my oldest was just a SONOGRAM!! My DD is now 6 and has a DB4 and a DS2. We are taking the inlaws to The World and staying at a GV at OKW from Jan 25-31. So excited, decided where to stay at 18 months out as well as when to go!

About July I started seeing some threads about the SuperBowl, and frankly, didn't think much of it. No biggie, end of January is slow, so we will still be OK.

Now I read a thread that TouringPlans has the crowd levels at 9!!!!!

9!?!?!?!?!?! WHAT!!!????

I am renting points for this stay and was blessed to get the GV!! I cannot change now!!!

Tell me it's an exaggeration! Tell me that the crowds will be AFTER the SuperBowl!!! Tell me something to ease my worry, PLEASE!!!:scared1:

I am in the same boat as you. It never even occurred to me that the Superbowl would have an impact on our vacation.

We were at WDW during the last Superbowl in Jax (2004?), and the crowds were only bad one day. The game is on Sunday night, and the crowds were heavy on Saturday before (and a little bit on Friday). Crowds are always heavier on the weekends anyway, because that's when local people tend to do day visits.

I wouldn't worry about it. No matter when you visit WDW, there will always be SOME kind of special event going on -- some festival, cheerleader competitions, Pop Warner week, Jersey week, spring break, etc, etc. There's always something.

Relax and have a great trip!

We were there for the Superbowl this year - and to be honest, I didn't even realize it was Superbowl Sunday until later in the room that night when we found out the Partriot's lost. We spend the day at Epcot and the crowds seemed normal to me.

I don't know that I'd hit the Boardwalk that night for a trip to ESPN, but otherwise crowds weren't bad at all. :confused3

The Super Bowl this year was in Arizona, thousands of miles from WDW. 2009 it is in Tampa, about 50 miles from WDW.

I don't think you have to worry about the beginning part of the week, Friday & Saturday maybe more crowded as fans start to arrive. Get there early and use fastpass.

And I can tell you that EMH at MK during the Superbowl (now I know that's sacrilege for some) is utterly amazing -- I walked on to everything!

We will be leaving Saturday to take the overnight train back to NC. Friday night will be our last night in our GV. Guess I will pray for the best.

I can honestly say I have been to WDW superbowl weekend (when they were not playing in Florida) and the when the Daytona 500 was running. My suggestion don't go to the Boardwalk, ESPN restaurant is there and that was crowed but other than that I never noticed a change in crowds. Except fot fewer dads/husbands :)

I say don't worry about it.

I would say that a little pre-planning can go a long way. Do some research and find the which parks will be the least crowded on which days (touringplans.com or tourguidemike.com), get to the parks early and you should be fine. We visited on July 4th weekend and the we only stood in line more than 15 minutes twice in 5 days.

I checked touringplansdot com before I booked my trip and since I had to go in Jan/Feb I looked at all the things that could impact our trip (MLK weekend, Mardi Gras, Superbowl) and scheduled our trip for jan 24-30, leaving the day before Superbowl. I was in WDW last month and the crowd levels were 9 but we managed them well, using EMH and FP. At least January won't be as hot!

I just booked a ressie last week for Super Bowl weekend without realizing it was Super Bowl weekend until after all the arrangements were made. :rolleyes1

Maybe this will truly be our stay out of the parks vacation. OR maybe we'll be lucky and everyone will want to stay a little closer to Tampa and go to Busch Gardens. (hey, I can hope, right?)

We always go that time of the year, but when I found out that the Superbowl is in Tampa, we switched to November. I thought the crowds would be better then, but I'm not so sure. If I had to do it over again, I'd probably stay with January.

Good luck and have fun no matter what!:dance3:

We went to WDW last year during the super bowl, and really we couldn't tell. We ended up at AKL that night and besides it being on the tv's at the bar I would have forgotten.

Happy planning!!!

One of our trips this year was during the SuperBowl. We were at SSR.

We never noticed an increase in crowds the whole week. You should be fine.
:thumbsup2

If last month (July) was crowd level 9, then what is the number given when it is really busy??? June and July had extremely low attendance in comparison with previous years. Cast members were being sent home early because it was so slow in the theme parks. I had lunch with three CMs who all said they have never seen June and July so slow. These girls have worked at WDW from 1.5 to 18 years, so there was some experience there talking.

If July was crowd level 9, then the OP has nothing to worry about for January. I am very skeptical of "crowd predictors".

Hmmm..... Well.... I did notice that you're having babies at two year intervals and it is time for the next one. Does that help?

Sorry :rotfl:

It's going to be what it is going to be... WONDERFUL

Remember... attitudes are contageous!
