Super Soaps Weekend?

Hi,

I find that I'm going to be in WDW for Super Soaps Weekend this year. Anyone out there have personal experience? I can't find many trip reports mentioning Super Soaps Weekend using the search function, and I'm curious about the crowds and such. One question I have - I understand that they use Fastpass to hand out tickets to get autographs of the stars (at MGM - they use Indianna Jones, I think Tower of Terror, and one other) - does this mean that they DON'T have Fastpass available for the rides/attractions?

I have not been there for it, but I remember reading that MGM is packed that weekend. That being said, maybe the rides wouldn't be that crowded as everyone is probably waiting in line to see the soap stars. However, you should keep in mind that some shows are probably cancelled (like Beauty and the Beast) so that they can use that theater for shows with the stars.

I'm sure somebody that has been will respond with more info, but if I were you (and I was able to do it), I'd try to skip MGM over that weekend.

I was there on super soap weekend last year. Actually went to MGM in the afternoon (around 4:30) on Saturday when everything was going on. The event was set up under the Scorcerer's hat and getting through that area would have been difficult because it was mobbed. However, we were there to see fantasmic and got several rides/fastpasses in on ToT and RRC before we went to get seats for 8:00 fantasmic (grandparents even took DD4 and DS2 to see Voyage of the Little Mermaid) so it was not that bad.

I've been there several times on Super Soap Weekend. The rides are easy to get on because everyone is gathered to see their soap stars. The first year, I just happened upon it. Subsequent years, I've checked the schedule and go because during certain times, I know the rides will have no wait.

I was there for SuperSoap Weekend 5 years ago (hopefully someone has been there during SSW more recently). The ONLY place that it had an impact on was MGM and ONLY during the event.

Oh and our hotel (The Yacht Club) as that is where the Soap Stars were staying and there were some very HOT men roaming around.....LOL

Yea, it's great. While the fans are swooning over the stars, us "normal" people got to ride everything with hardly a wait. But the parking lot was a nightmare!!

I went to SSW last year for the first time. As other posters have said, MGM is packed around the Sorceers Hat but the rides are easier to get on. They still use Fast Pass for the rides along with fast passes for the autographs. Besides the autograph booths,there are live talk shows on the main stage and in the ABC theater. WWTBAM has a special soap edition. SoapTalk tapes some of its shows over the weekend. The parades feature the soap stars. There are concerts both nights. With 40+ soap stars attending, there are autogragh stations throughout the park with huge crowds around them. When the park opens there are three taped lines on the streets that lead you to the fast pass stations for each show. When we went in, my DD & DIL were going to go to ToT first while I got a locker. We weren't interested in the fast passes but the CM's nearly forced them to stay in the lines following the tape. The activities are all day Saturday and Sunday. I don't think I would want to go to MGM on either of these days if I wasn't interested in SSW. Enjoy the other parks.

We went for the first time last year. The first day we got toMGM around 9:00. OMG - it was so packed! We've never seen crowds like that anywhere at Disney so it was quite a surprise. Every area where there was a celebrity was mobbed! People were screaming, they had signs. It was crazy! We decided to see a show featuring Cameron Mathison and Michael E. Knight. ("Ryan" and "Tad" - All My Children) The day started to turn from crazy to worth it. There was a live talk show type thing going on at the end of Hollywood Boulevard. I came as close as I'll probably ever come to some of my favorite soap characters. "Erica Kane", "Kendal Hart", "Bianca Montgomery", "Babe Chandler" and the list goes on. If you watch AMC you can understand how exciting this was for me. My DH was even excited!

We had just finished lunch at Sci-Fi and were in that area when all of a sudden I spot "Antonio" from One Life to Live just walking around by himself like it was no big deal. I mean he was right next to me! I was so shocked to see him all I could do was say hi. And he said it back. I was so stoked!
We didn't even ride any rides that day. I think we were there four hours, tops. The crowd and the heat really wore us out. The next morning all we could think about was soap stars and autographs so we headed to MGM again. Long story short, we got in line for FP to see our favorites, but about thirty minutes in they annouced there were no more FP for who we wanted to see. We shopped a little then I got in line for RNRC. I think the wait was about twenty minutes. We rode again and practically walked on that time. The second day of SSW was definitely more calm than the first. Despite the crowd and the overall craziness, if you're a soap fan you will love SSW!

We were at WDW during the Soap weekend in 2003. The "word on the street" was to avoid The Studios at all costs. We spent Saturday at Epcot and Sunday at Animal Kingdom. Both were relatively quiet. Whether "the mob" at The Studios helped us is hard to say.

Wow, sounds like a busy time! My Mom and younger sister are really looking forward to seeing all the soap stars! Does anyone know when the schedule for this year's event comes out? I've already made my ADR's for Saturday and Sunday (my thinking is that, although I usually make do with counter service, if the crowds are as bad as you say, it'll be nice to have a place to get out of the throngs for a little while).

Anyone have any info about any set aside wheelchair areas?

Super Soap Weekend was taking place last year during our trip to WDW. Since we were not particularly interested in the soap stars we avoided MGM on Saturday and Sunday and were not negatively affected at all. I do remember that when we were at the MK on the Wednesday prior to SSW, All My Children was filming some scenes there, so we saw some stars, but I was clueless as to who they were! We stayed at the BCV, and I did feel the Epcot Resort area was more crowded than on previous November non-SSW trips, but it was not intolerable. That could have been due to the F&W Festival at Epcot as well. So, my advice would be to avoid MGM that weekend if you are not interested in ABC Soaps and you will be fine! Have a great trip!
