Super Goofs kicking some BOOty in October

I wont be there, but I'll be thinking of all of you, cheering for my goofs from NH...make sure someone posts the pic on here so I can see what I missed!

Just completed a 7 miler. I guess this was my last long run before the TOT. Why is it my long run days always hit when it is hot outside?!? Came in at a 12:00 pace. I did a R5/W1 and it was no faster than when I do a R3/W1. Interesting. I so wish I could get back to my 10:30 pace days... Alas, it is a distance memory! :lmao:

Ran all my shorter runs this week with my dog. I'm so happy she has gotten the hang of it and I now have her as a running companion!

DH is doing a marathon this weekend on some mountain trail. I'm a little worried about him.

Next weekend I'm running with my two daughters at a Make A Wish 5K. They're excited.

Cecilia, good luck on your race and have a nice trip!

Angie, congrats on the 11 miler!

Steve, way to go on the 5K!

And all you running RFTT I hope you have a blast!

Soon I'll be down there running the TOT 13K! :cool1:

Already the 11th?......
Hello....
Is this thing working?....

I just spent an amazing Sunday morning- I completed the Boston Half for the Dana Farber Association. It was an unbelievable beautiful fall day- I met some great folks so run with, ran thru a zoo and saw camels and hyeanas (I love animals)

Less than a half a block away from where I parked was the MECCA- FENWAY PARK WITH A REDSOCKS GAME:cheer2:

Unfortunately DD#1 called- "you know we are out of guinea pig food"....

So much for feeling like I am a 20 year old college student and totally taking the day for myself and hanging out in Boston while the SOX are playing...

I drove to get pet food in my CX-W tights, race singlet, bib # - crap- I really needed to do this now? I look like ****** #1. I quickly put on my race shirt and ran in to my guinea pig food. I am not sure what the others thought of me but the song that was going thru my head was ...

What have you done today to make you feel proud:cloud9:

Hey Goofs, below are a couple of pictures from this mornings last Race for the Taste 10K. I shaved 4 mins and 22 secs off of last years time so I'm excited! I don't know if I am getting faster or it was so hot that I just wanted to be done but either way, I'll take it!

Wish meet at the Boardwalk on Saturday afternoon.

Thanks for the pics, and CONGRATS again, you did so good!!!

Hey Super Goofs! Great job to everyone that did the Race for the Taste! I was following all the events on facebook! Saw lots of great pics and it looks like everyone had a great time!

As for me...I am hanging in there..lots going on. Trying to keep up with training but that has been tough. I am heading out today for a 10 mile run. Hope that goes ok, but we shall see!

Made reservations for January this week. We will be staying at Pop Century...can't wait!

Keep up the good work Goofs!!

Hi Goofs!

I finished! A new PB - 4:38:21

I will never again complain about crowds at a Disney Race - The Chicago Marathon was packed in like sardines. I didn't have breathing room until almost 10 miles in.

It was a nice marathon even though around mile 19 I was looking around thinking it would sure be nice to see Mickey about now.

I think I wore myself out trying to get out of the corwds the first 10 miles and so by mile 18 I was really hurting. Usually when I get tired, I start concentrating on using my glutes to change up my pace and that seems to ease the pain for a while.

This time, the glutes were the first muscles to start screaming followed rapidly by the hips. My hips have NEVER hurt while running so this flustered me and I had no idea how to help it. Eventually every step whether walking or running hurt so I just ran as fast as I could make my legs go. I never got tired, it was just so incredibly painful to move. Walking was actually worse than running.

Up until mile 22, I was on pace to finish in under 4:30. It was really miserable to let the 4:30 pace group pass out of my sight knowing I just didn't have it in me anymore.

The scary part came when I crossed the finish line and the pain did not end. It actually got worse. By the time I met up with my running partner, I was in agony even standing still. This never happens to me!

Funny thing is, I feel great today. No pain at all and I am not even sore or stiff. Well, except for one spot on my left foot that hurts.

Any clues or quesses as to what could have caused my hips to hurt like that?

Cecilia- you so rock. You are my idol!

I was looking at the temps for your run and I was feeling so bad for you being used to Georgia weather
WAY TO GO!!!:banana::banana::cheer2::cheer2:

Back from Disney and temps are 50 degrees colder than Florida!

Cecilia Congrats on your PR. Hope you figure out the hip thing, and glad to hear you're feeling good now.

SuzanneAlways fun to see you!

Lisa Sorry I didn't get to talk with you after our brief pre-race meet. Since I was at the race with family, I stuck with them afterwards.

Liz Also sorry I didn't have more than a "wave-by" this time out.

Rich Sorry I didn't meet you. Did you meet any WISH'ers?

As for me, the race was not a great one. I was not trying to PR (wouldn't have been able to anyway in that weather!), just trying to maintain a specific tempo pace per my training plan. I didn't.:sad2: I guess I didn't push myself hard enough. Oh well, I got my medal and my food and that was one ginormous bottle of water they gave us at the finish line! (1.5 liter) Anyway, back to training and positive thoughts.

Maura

Congrats Cecilia!!! :yay::woohoo::yay:

And congrats to all those that ran the last RFTT! :cheer2:
Hope you guys had fun at WDW!

Small victories . . .

I ran last night. No biggie, but with my kid's schedules, I completely fell off the fitness wagon last fall. It isn't easy to work all day, throw food at them, then get them to hockey practice 3 days a week, or Scouts, or karate, or . . .and get a run/work-out in (I know you all know this!). Last night, during an 8pm hockey practice, I headed out to a trail half a mile from the rink...and I ran.

We're a month in to the school year / hockey season and I still have a reasonable fitness routine going.

Small victories.

Just got back from Disney an hour or so ago. Long trip report made short - miserable heat, worst 10k in several years, kids were whiny (due to heat), once again did not make the cut to even the second round in the Moms Panel, and, of course, now I have Disney withdrawl on top of it all.

Sorry I missed everyone - as late as they seated us for our Saturday ADR, I could have made the mini-meet and almost walked to Fort Wilderness in time.

Not to sound bitter or any thing but I thought at least one member of my TEAM would have patted me on the back for completing the Boston Half Marathon for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

See, I knew I missed something important. Congrats! How did it go? Did you write up a race report?

Sorry, sorry, sorry Joanne. Since I posted the next post after your race report, I must have just posted the pictures and not read anything before it...:confused3

Congrats!!

Ceclia - Amazing job with Chicago! Sorry you hurt so much afterward. I'm glad it was shortlived.

Joanne - Congratulations on the Boston Half. Let us know if you post any pictures or a report!

Congrats also to everyone who ran the RFFT. I can't function in running shoes when it's hotter than 60 degrees so my hat's off to all of you! Thanks for the pictures Suzanne.

It's been a while since I last posted so hopefully I didn't miss anyone!

I have been on the road more than a week between visiting family and business travel. I feel like a slug since I haven't been able to workout much.

I had a good PT session on Friday and confessed I planned on running the Humboldt Redwoods Half Marathon Sunday (yesterday). She told me not to run more than half of it (with walk breaks) and to walk the hills and whenever possible, stay on the soft dirt shoulder.

I nodded and smiled knowing my ego wouldn't let me only run half of it. Despite not exercising much and not running in over a week, I felt great starting out. I had a blazing pace (for me) and was at an 8:34 pace at the turnaround. It was around 56 minutes and I was shocked to see I was on pace to go sub-2:00!

For my knee's sake, I eased up on my my pace a bit after the turnaround but still felt great. Right around mile 11, I just fell apart. Maybe it was the fact I hadn't run more than an hour in over two months but my legs just turned into lead. They got really stiff and heavy and it was all I could do to run three minutes at a time. The good part was I felt great energy and cardio-wise. My legs just couldn't keep up with me.

I ended up dragging myself to the mat finishing at 2:07:06, only 23 seconds faster than last year. Mile 11 is where I shut down last year too but it was my stamina that gave out. Maybe next year everything will be working properly and I'll get closer to that 2:00 half.

My knee felt okay after the race. It wasn't until I went to my truck for some grub and tried to walk back up the steep hill to meet my friend that my knee started really hurting. It hurt the rest of the day but I downed some Ibuprofen and iced it a lot. It feels fine this morning although I sure hurt everywhere else!

In all, it was an amazingly beautiful course and I wouldn't miss it. It was neat to hear a few conversations from people who travelled so far to run this small race just so they could see the redwoods in their lifetime.

Here is me on the right:
