Super Goofs June Team Challenge Thread

Good morning Super Goofs. What a wonderful weekend we had with our exercise. Glad to hear everyone was getting out there despite the heat. It was in the 90s here all weekend which is rare for us and I am sunburned to a crisp through my SPF50 sunblock (and yes I reapplied frequently). Apparently my winter white skin was not ready for all day softball tourneys.

So in true fashion of DD13s softball team, they came out great guns and won fitfully and then proceeded to lose (of their own doing) and into the losers bracket we go fighting back to the winners. This makes for 4 games Saturday (instead of 2) and 4 games on Sunday (instead of 2) in the 90 degree heat. DD13 played center field and catcher some too in relief. She played every game the whole game and was worn by the end of the day. They lost in the semis by the way to the same team that beat them the second game and for the same reason, dumb errors. Softball was not made to include a game of hot potato in the middle of it....go figure. DD had some great hits, awesome steals and scored many runs. Apparently no one else has spent 9 years having it drilled in their head that to gain speed down the runway to the vault, you have minimal body movement and arm movement, go figure. I guess that was money well spent if we end up with a scholarship out of it!!!

On the fitness front, well, it was hot and I was sunburned after the first day so there was not much happening. I am going to attempt to run and bike today but it is still in the high 80s to 90s and DS6 has a baseball game. I did weed my garden and all my rock work on Sunday for about 45 minutes so we will count that toward my time. ::yes:: I sure did work up a sweat and add in the dry dirt to that and you have a messy me!!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I am still waiting for totals from last week for ArelysAdriana, Hockeygirl, Mickeyhead, Uptown_girl44, SAP1227 and DH, and Crazy4disney06. If any of you are out there and have miles/minutes to contribute please get those into me as soon as possible so I can get the spreadsheet updated. Thanks all and have a wonderful day!!! :thumbsup2

Joanne, I hope your back is feeling better, sounds like a good excuse to schedule a massage!!

Funny you should mention that. I cannot afford one for myself but the beast gets one every month!

My back feels so much better after the yoga class but the weather is horrible. I ran with Bella at about 9:30 and she had a tough time with it. We cut the run short and I finished up on the treadmill. I am not used to this sticky gross stuff so early on. Too hot to ride today. I'll take the kids swimming later on. Stay cool and hydrated everyone!

3.02 miles in 37:15 (Poor Bella!)
Week 4 of Hal Higdon Novice training continues!

For today...2.21 miles/22:52 and 15 min. calisthenics on the beach :)! I won't have that for scenery when we move to Oklahoma next month :(

Hi Goofs

50 minutes total exercise time today, upper body and abdominal work

30 minutes for 3.4 miles outside, in the humidity but I felt great.

Feels good to run.

Add for today a very leisurely walk with the kids and dog...3/4 mile in 22 min.

I had a successful attempt at Week 6 Day 3 today. There are no more walking segments other than warm-up and cool-down from here on out! I feel like all of these smilies at the same time: :thumbsup2  :cool1: :faint: :scared1:

At any rate, I did 2.57 miles in 35 minutes.

Top o the morning Goofs. Sorry, feeling a little Irish this morning for some reason!! Sounds like everyone is out there moving despite the hot temps and humidity. Good for us!!!! :thumbsup2

FloridaGirl: But when you move to OK, there will be new scenery for awhile. I was considering the OKC half in April 09 (pending budget) with DSis who is out there so maybe put that one on your list!

Ksoehrlein: Yay for you. All running and you had a great time!! It is so exciting to meet a new goal (we all live vicariously through others) and we are so glad to share it with you. :yay: :woohoo:

Joanne: Do you like the HH plan? I am trying the Runners World plan and it is my first deviation from MFM. I was going to do the HH advanced but there is no XT in the plan and I am a huge proponent of XT in your training. Keep those supporting muscles strong you know!!! :cool2: Glad to hear your back is better. Yoga is definitely good for what ails you...except this cold...all the upside down hurt!!! And schedule yourself for a massage, your wonderful boy is not the only one who deserves one. ::yes::

Suzanne, Cecilia, Angie and Beth: Way to get out there in the hot and sticky of it all. :goodvibes

As for me, I decided it was soooo hot (90) and sooooo sticky yesterday that I would make my own breeze so I went for a 12 mile bike. It was actually XT day anyway and it felt good to get out there and pedal. When I stopped to get a drink I realized exactly how hot it really was! :faint: Yucky. I moved to GA for 2 years and moved back North, now I remember why. Anyone in the South deserves a medal for working out during the summer months, IMHO. Today is 5 miles and it is only supposed to be 80 so I can probably swing that. Tomorrow is another long bike ride (I have some miles to make up from the weekend). I am liking the RW plan so far. I would really like to up my foot miles but I am trying to remember to go slow. We don't want that PF rearing its ugly head again!!!

Have a great day Super Goofs and keep on with all your hard work. :thanks: :sunny:

I like this plan the best so far. I am prone to injury and so far injury free- knock on wood! There is one day of cross training but no program is set in stone so I usually modify off days as I like. I don't think any of these plans schedule spin, yoga or riding all on the same day!

It is going to be another hot day. I got up at 6 and already it is hot and humid. I sweat so much I feel like I took a shower. Poor Bella had such a tough time of it I feel I can't take her with me but she loves it so.

The best part about my run today is that Lance congratulated me on completing 250 miles!

Today 4.9 miles in 59:23. Slug/Bella time- poor thing!

Hi Goofs,

Let's see. I didn't do any serious workouts over the weekend--no excuses really, just biding my time, it seems. I did get out for two long walks with the dog in a mildly successful attempt to tire him out (and therefore buy us some time where we aren';t constantly chasing after him!) So I did about 5 miles in 1:40.
Monday I biked and did some ab work. 45 minutes total, 7 miles.
Today, I ran! Yeah, I figure that since I go to the ortho doc next Monday, I may as well be entirely clear about my symptoms, etc. So I run (and at a pretty "fast" clip, too) and of course, my knee barely hurts! I went over 2 miles before I felt anything, so maybe this will resolve on its own--figures. But I still plan to go to the doc just to make sure. So add in 3 .1 miles in 30 minutes.

Ksoehrlein Great job on your progress! It felt pretty amazing to get to the first "all-run" segment and even more amazing when you feel like you'd rather run than walk!

To everyone else, enjoy our day!

Monday...20 mins bike/4.07 miles

Tuesday...101 mins/6 mile walk

It was HOT HOT HOT this morning for my walk but I met 2 friends from work and we were bound and determined to do it!!

I ordered a Garmin yesterday and will have it in 2-3 days. I am so excited!!:yay: :yay: :yay:

Suzanne...which one did you decide on?

I got the 201. The price was in my budget and it will do what I need it to! I AM SO EXCITED. I bought it online and the confirmation page says it will arrive anytime between Wednesday (tomorrow!!!!) and Monday.

Two girls from work met me today and we did a 6 mile walk. We were talking about body shape and how some people are apple shaped, some are pear shaped, etc. I said I thought I am pear shaped, bigger in the hips and bottom. Both girls said no way, that I am hour glass shaped. :hourglass I wanted to hug both of them, thats the BEST compliment I've gotten in a long time. :yay:

Last week while in florida I was able to squeeze one day of running in.

Friday 6/6 3 miles, 27:00

Hi Goofs,

3 hours yard work and mowing the lawn for me this evening. I wore my pedometer and came up with only 3.8 miles, but I will take it.

At the humidity is gone at this point.

Hope to run tomorrow and do more exercising.

WAY TO GO!!!! I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!'

I was looking at the Garmins also, please post a "review" okay?

Take care all.

Good morning Super Goofs. I see everyone is out getting their workouts done!! Great job everyone.

Suzanne: Hourglass shaped...lucky you. I think I have been compared to a board or a stick before but never anything so lovely as an hourglass!! :lmao: Maybe when I was nursing my kidlets, that would be the only time my little mesomorphic frame had any kind of curve to it. :confused3

Chad: You ran in Florida, you crazy thing. Too much heat to run and besides, weren't you supposed to be having fun?????:cool2:

Maura: My SIL claimed when she hurt her glute on a hill that running faster was better. I never really understood that but she just kept running faster and I kept struggling to keep up!! Maybe your body really wants to go faster and is trying to prod you along??? Glad to hear you are playing it safe by going to the docs though.

Joanne: Good to know about the HH plan. I am going to work on the RW plan for this year and see how it goes for me. I want my miles up a little higher than HH puts them. I am one of those who need to run farther in order to run faster if that makes any sense. My LR for the 5K training is 7-12 which works for me. I want to have my foot miles around 30 by the end of the summer. You know, so I can slack through winter and start all over in spring like normal!! :rolleyes1

All other Super Goofs: Consider this your cattle prod for the day, oh and a big wave too!!!

As for me, I opted for the AC and the gym yesterday. Much as I loathe the dreadmill, it was a better option than 90 and humid. I ran the preprogrammed 4/4 interval and averaged about a 10:50 mile for 60 minutes and managed to make it 5.5 miles. I tried to go faster but the person beside me was running at a 12 minute mile and you know how easy it is to fall into their cadence when you are so close. It was not worth the concentrated effort on my part and it interrupted my listening to my new tunes on my iPod so I just gave in. Today is a long bike which I will squeeze in between groceries, laundry and DD13 being home sick.

Later days Super Goofs!!

6/9
1 mile/16 mins

6/10
4 miles/70 mins (it was 91 degrees, I walked it all, and not very fast...was still a puddle at the end, but I got my steps in!!)

Question, I am giving blood tonight, is it ok to run tomorrow?

Suzanne, you ARE an hourglass (I'm jealous!!)
