The height restriction!!!! My son is obsessed and daily asks to ride McQueen and I keep telling him in october we will... I had no worries about height restrictions and I don't know why I didn't check but there is no way he will be 40 inches in 2 months LOL! Any chance this is one he can ride with an adult? ugh! this sucks!!!

Think I can trick him with a ride on Autopia? ;)

Don't know ride details but usually height restrictions are for safety. We've toured coaster parks with youngest too small. Sure they feel left out but it's better than skirting the requirement and they slip out of restraints and get hurt. Give some extra time for rides they can go on and make them special, held them get over it.

No. The height requirement is for safety. Once he is 40", it will be a big celebration!! Just to clarify, he won't be riding McQueen.

But he should be able to ride Maters. Its in my top 5 in DCA!

They do enforce height for safety reasons. No riding with an adult if they are under 40". Even talk of having kids take their shoes off if the shoes look too tall. You can talk to a cm and sometimes they give you a little magic card for when he is tall enough! Goofy's sky coaster gave my son a fastpass ticket for up to 6 guests last fall for when he reaches the 42" mark, which will be this trip!!

I know about safety, and I would never let him ride or try to cheat if he was too short but I was bummed to figure it out :(

Thats so cool they make a card for the kids, I swear Disney thinks of everything! We are totally excited for Mater's :)

Sorry he won't be able to ride. :( I hope Mater's is a good compromise, to be honest, DD16 and I loved Mater's, we laughed the entire time we were on it, and yes, we rode it more than once. Listen to the safety spiel when he says it in Spanish, OMG it's hilarious...... Love that Mater!!! :)

Haha. We were there on the dreaded Friday when it was closed all day. We later went over to DL and when cueing up for Autopia I called it the "poor man's Radiator Springs Racers". We all had a good laugh over that one.

I know how you feel OP, we are coming from Australia and I keep measuring 3 yo DS, he is at 38.5" now without shoes. WE have until October but we will all not go on it if he cannot as he would be devastated.
I think he will just love seeing Lightening McQueen and Mater in general hopefully....
DD who is 5 will be sad, but oh well. We will try not to focus or even acknowledge that ride.

Look at the positive - it gives you another reason to return to the parks for another holiday once he's tall enough!

I just had this convo last night with my 37 inch tall Cars fan DS. His cousin just visited DL and had a video of RSR and Goofy's Sky School. I explained to him that he would not be able to ride all the big kid rides yet, but we'd have to come back to visit another time.

I totally agree with the safety reasons and would never challenge it. But yeah, it is tough for the little guys. Cars is to this generation of little boys what princesses are to little girls.

Your ruler may be different than DCA, so practice with him to stand up straight and tall, w/o going up on his toes. I doubt the difference in your measurement and theirs is much, but if you're only 2 inches away, and he as a growth spurt. . .

My almost three year olds do not understand how to stand straight and tall. I read on here to have the kid raise his arms over his head. This pulls the head and shoulders back.

I was told by a CM the height requirement was to make sure feet are on the floor. To me, that would mean a true 40" sloucher, slouching at 39.5 inches, would probably have his feet reach the floor.

My nephew is a giant. He turned 2 in April and is already 38.5" tall without shoes.

It would be a close one if he was coming with me, but he's not.

Yes the Spanish is funny! What kind of accent is that?

My group (all 15+) laughed the whole time on Mater's too. I wanted to ride it twice as well, but didn't find time.

Lisa808 I think you should hype your son up on the other cars related stuff before your trip. I bet he'll be thrilled if he actually gets to meet McQueen.

See, I don't understand this. Why not let DD5 go on it? I would never do that to my kids...... :confused3 When we first started doing theme parks there were rides my older DD could do that my youngest couldn't, we never kept the older one from doing them, we just split up and did things with each of them.
I will say tho that RSR is easy to avoid in a way, it's in the back of CL so unless you walk past the section that is by the Pacific Wharf area (race track passes by the walkway there) you will totally miss it and your kids won't even know it's there. :goodvibes

We were walking into CL one day through the "mountain" entrance via the Wharf (my favorite place to enter!) and there were CM's all over the place, I sort of dawdled a bit and as I walked by they opened the gate and Lightning drove out! He was on his way to the M&G at the Cozy Cone, we followed him into the area and it was so much fun! :)
Mater's ride is hilarious, I'm very much looking forward to riding it again!! :)

ETA, OP make sure you go to Sarge's shop or to Ramone's and play trivia with your DS, especially if he's a big Cars fan, just ask where to play if you can't figure it out. :)

My step son's shoes add at least .75" to his height and I've seen skeechers with an inch-high sole... it helped him get on space mountain two years ago!

This is not recommended. I know people will say this and do this to get their kids on rides but remember, ride height restrictions are for your child's safety, getting tall shoes does not mean they are tall enough to ride. I have in fact seen CM's ask kids to take shoes off and remeasure without shoes, in one case it was cowgirl boots on a little girl, she was not allowed to ride (space mtn), in another case it was a young boy with heely's on, he was asked to remove them and was not allowed to ride (Screamin'). So yes, CM will ask children to remove shoes if they feel they need to.
