Super Bowl Sunday?

I may be at the parks on Superbowl Sunday (definitely Fri and Sat, considering Sunday morning before I hop on my train at 1:30pm). I checked out the touring plans predictions and it has it at a 9. While I knew that the "superbowl day secret" had gotten out and I didn't expect it to be a ghost town, I also didn't expect it to be one of the busiest days of the month (according to the crowd calendar). Why is it so packed on Superbowl Sunday? Is it because people think it won't be? Seems like a good amount of people watch the Superbowl so I was a bit surprised. Will it be more crowded later in the day? Since I'm on the fence about including Sunday morning in our trip, I'm wondering if it'll be worth it or not? We'll likely have MM so I know that's helpful. Thoughts?

That's a good ?!!! What does touring plans say for the days prior? Specifically Feb. 2nd-4th?

Just by coincidence I have been at DL the last two Superbowl Sundays, and it has been very crowded. As for the why? No idea. Maybe everyone thinks everyone else will be watching the game.

2/2: DL 1 DCA 2
2/3: DL 4 DCA 5
2/4: DL 6 DCA 5
2/5: DL 9 DCA 9 (President's day is at a DL: 9 DCA: 8 - so technically they're saying Superbowl Sunday will be busier overall than President's Day??)

Would you say the morning wasn't too bad, or was the morning just as bad as afternoon?

I've never been to Dland on Super Bowl Sunday, but I have been reading the Disboards for many many years and the question of crowds on SB Sunday comes up annually. And each year, Disboarders report afterward that SB Sunday is very very busy. Maybe a decade ago it might have been a light or even moderate day, but not in recent memory according to posts on this site and other Dland fan sites.

Thanks for the numbers! My 3 1/2 days for Disney got downgraded to 2 1/2 days. February 2nd is the day I choose for Disneyland (MM morning). I'm so glad to hear the numbers should be that low! Feb 3rd is our DCA. I can handle that.

I hope Sunday turns out to be less crowded than expected for you.

Well shoot... we're going to be there on Superbowl Sunday (by accident) as well. I was thinking it wasn't going to be too busy. Looks like the other days aren't too bad, though. I would've thought since most people are watching the game, it wouldn't be too bad.

It's crowded.

I'm wondering now, though, if the morning will be busier than usual because people are going in the park BEFORE the game. Typically speaking, early mornings are far less busy than afternoon - but I'm wondering if there's a flip flop sorta because the afternoon game?

Mornings in general will always be a bit slower than later in the day but I'm sure other people are probably thinking the same thing your thinking so that might make that particular morning more crowded than usual. No real way to beat the crowds at dland. Just try to be there when the rope drops and use the fast pass system to your advantage regardless of the day.

Luckily I'll have Friday afternoon/evening and all of Saturday, so Anything we can do on Sunday will be a perk. Plus, we'll have MM.

Anyone know how lines have been for Frozen? My mom hasn't seen it and while I thought it was good, it wasn't worth the nearly 2 hours we had to wait for it. How early should we show up for, say, the 1:30 show?

I don't remember the morning being any better or worse than usual mornings on a busy day.

It really depends on the day you go to Frozen. If it's a slow day you can walk in 15-20 minutes before the show and get a seat, if you're not particular about which seat. On more crowded days you may want to get there 45 minutes before.

Last year the Superbowl was played on the west coast so the parade with the players took place on the Monday after the superbowl in Disneyland. This year the event is in Texas so I would assume the parade will be at Disneyworld. I went last year and found the Sunday to be busy (no different then a typical Sunday) but the Monday was nuts. The Sunday morning was fine as well.

Thank you for that info!

We'll be going into the park for MM and probably leaving about 11am, so hopefully we won't see too many crowds during that time. Although, it'll be interesting to have GGR down and no ToT - seems like more crowds will disperse to other areas of the park. We shall see! Either way, I don't feel a lot of pressure, as I've been two times in the last couple of months, and with no children, there is definitely more a leisurely pace kept!

That Monday was also the 15th anniversary of DCA and they had special events and a state holiday in CA with schools closed.

Super Bowl Sunday is like a summer peak season mid week...it is busier than you would think cuz everyone else thinks it will be less busy.

Two years ago we were there during Super Bowl Sunday. It was crowded but I wouldn't have placed it at a 9 out of 10 for crowd level. It was our only weekend day at the parks so I don't really have another weekend to compare it to but it was about what I would expect for a weekend crowd, personally. Morning was still less crowded than afternoon.
