Any word on what this will be like? Is it basically going to be identical to the regular safari, just done at sunset? Or will there be something different?

only thing I heard was animals that would actually be up at the time this would happen and some lighting.

I can't wait to ride it and decide for myself. I've spent an entire day riding KS as many times as possible. Now I'll be able to go after they now close.

Is this just for people staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge?

(As far as I know) All park guests!

New details were also shared on Sunset Kilimanjaro Safaris, a new nighttime adventure that will allow guests to travel through the African savanna amid the orange glow of the setting sun.

Guests visiting the attraction after dark will also discover two species on the savanna: African wild dogs and hyenas.

It looks like they just added the painted dogs!

I think the confusion here is that there *are* safaris that are only for guests of the Animal Kingdom Lodge, the Night Safari (https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/animal-kingdom/night-safari/) and the Wanyama Safari (https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/animal-kingdom-lodge/wanyama-resort-safari-and-dinner/). Since the Wanyama Safari starts at 3:30, I have heard it referred to sometimes as the Sunset Safari (to distinguish from the resort-specific Sunrise Safari, no longer available).

None of these terms caused any confusion until Avatar expansion yielded the extension of the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction to the "Sunset Kilimanjaro Safaris".

BTW, if you have the opportunity, I highly recommend the resort-specific Night Safari. We did it on our last trip. While it was interesting to see the differences (or lack thereof) in the animals' behavior after dark, the best part of the experience for me was the opportunity for an extended conversation with the zookeepers. It was amazing to hear them talk about individual giraffes in the herd and their personalities the same way we would talk about our pets. That doesn't sound right when I write it, but IMO it was very worth what we paid.

Here's a question I have, and hopefully it won't set off an animal rights debate, but... AK has always closed early to allow for the care of the animals and to give them a "break"... so how is this going to work now with the sunset safari? Are the animals available to see going to be different? Ones that don't require as much "down time" as some others do?

Interesting thought. I would hope Disney is well aware of how important their image is regarding issues such as animal rights. Let's hope they care for those little (and large) creatures :)
