Just had an e-mail from Disney answering some questions I had and found out some info that might be useful to someone else:

What's the alternate indoor location in case of rain?
This is a special case for the Sunset Point. Currently, the backup location at Disney's Polynesian Resort is under refurbishment. So, you have two (2) options as a Sunset Point bride:

1) Book a "guaranteed" backup at the Wedding Pavilion. This would reserve Sunset Point and Disney's Wedding Pavilion for your special day. Therefore, the experience price would be for the Premium level $5,500.00.

2) Take the "non-guaranteed" backup option. This would mean that if there is inclement weather on the day of the event, we would utilize space at any convention center on Walt Disney World property. This experience price would be for the Deluxe level $4,500.00.

Due to these bookings, Sunset Point is now at an 8 month in advance booking period. So, for an event on December 30, 2009, we can begin looking at availability on April 30, 2009.

WOW! That is a HUGE change. I hope it doesn't throw a kink into any of our DIS Brides' plans.

Did they say how long this arrangement would last? It sounds temporary...

When we were married this past January, it was so windy and cold. I mean, it was so cold that I thought my eyeballs would freeze LOL. The day before the wedding, our WC started giving me the option to change the venue. She told me (in the sweetest way that she could), "It is a convention room. We put out flowers and try to make it look as nice as possible." I chose to go ahead with Sunset Point. Even though everyone was freezing, and it was too cold to enjoy the cake outside, it was still beautiful.

If I'm not mistaken you are getting married in december? It doesn't rain that often in december, so I wouldn't stress too much about it. If there is any possibility that you can do the Sunset Point wedding, your coordinator will make sure it happens!!

No she didn't say how long it would last.

I really don't want to get married in a room so would happily marry outside if its cold and windy.

Exactly. I think I would have been devastated if I had gone all the way to disney and had to get married in a convention center room. If the Poly had been a backup, I wouldn't have worried because it is a beautiful resort. I had read before that it was the backup, so I was kind of shocked when I was told a convention center room.

Now, it was cold, but when I ended up with some great pictures of my dress billowing in the wind, they are some of my favorites. Also, since it was so cold, there was virtually NO ONE outside during the ceremony. We had the entire Poly beach to ourselves for the pictures, that was priceless! The only other person that you can see in any of our pictures or video was a man in a white tshirt. He stood outside his hotel room when I was walking down the isle, and you catch a glipse of him. When the trip started, it was warm and beautiful, and i was worried about it being crowded!!

My thoughts exactly.

You'd think they would have better back-up locations.

Yep, I could have gotten married at home in a 'room' much cheaper LOL. But, you have to have faith and be flexible. The slot I had, 2:30, was the last one of the day, so we had a little play time if it started to rain.

We unfortunately do not currently have an end date for the refurbishment. I believe the current booking policy will stay in effect for all of 2009.

Ugh  Im sorry that totally stinks! WIl you choose another loc or just hope for sun?

Well the other location i'm thinking about is the WP which can only be booked at 8 months as well so I'm in a no win situation.
