Where is the best place to see the sunset in Key West

From the Ship
On the Sunset Schooner excursion
Elsewhere?

Thanks

Hi poopie.

Where is the best place to see the sunset in Key West From the Ship On the Sunset Schooner excursion

I'd say the ship since it's always possible for the Schooner to be facing east...

Many people go to Mallory Square to watch the sunset. We stayed on the ship and went up to deck 10. We went mid-ship by the goofy pool and grabbed some chairs. Disney had a bank out playing some nice mood music and a bar set up. By the time the sun started setting there were a large number of people up watching with us. It was really beautiful and I'm glad I took the time to watch.

Another vote for the ship. Just can't beat that view mixed with that atmosphere. Very relaxing.

What the heck are we all doing up so late?

we hurried off the ship after dinner to see the sunset. It was a stupid thing to do. after we got off the ship we realized we should of just stayed on. too many people in mallory square. I would recommend to go to mallory square after the sunset to see all the street performers. Some are quite interesting.

We wanted to be part of the Sunset Celebration so we opted fo watch the sunset from Mallory Square. We go there an hour before sundown and got places at the edge of the pier. We were able to watch the performers and then witness a beautiful sunset.
We then strolled around looking at the various wares the vendors had and the back to the ship for dinner. We would not have had time to clean up and change for dinner so we went to Topsiders. Salads, Steaks, Baked Potatoes were great.
If we had it to do over again, and we should next year, we will do it the same way.pirate:

We have main seating for dining, so I guess we will miss sunset :(

Is there anyplace you can find out when the sunset will take place? We will be in Key West December 7, 2003.

One of the most beautiful places to watch the sunset in on the top floor of the hotel LaConcha which is on Duval and Fleming Street ------you have a 360 degree view of Key West including the sunset - Mallory Square is interesting but hard to enjoy with so many people and vendors but as I say very interesting.
I do not know how to tell you the time of sunset but if you will go to the key West Citizen (local newspaper) aka thekeynoter.com - you can get all local information there - from A to Z
Wish I could help more.
Always
Shirley

The navigator which is delivered to your stateroom the evening before will show the sunrise and sunset times for the next day.

Sunset that day is 5:39 pm. Looks like you'll have time to watch sunset from the ship and still make dinner!

For anyone else that is interested you can find your sunset at the following site:

Complete Sun and Moon Data for One Day

Just put in the day, Florida for the state and Key West for the city. It was RobinTn who first showed me this site.

I got some amazing shots of the sunset right from the ship at Deck 10. No one was up there. I got footage of the crowds and of the sun as it came down in the distance, with boats passing by and everything. I want to make one into a wall picture. I vote for the boat.

and EVERYONE for the advise, now I am torn what to do, Mallory Square seems like my kind of place, I love to watch people as well as sunsets.

Shirley I don't know if you remember me but my dad and I stopped by the shop LAST September 2002 to say hi.

Can I still see the manatees from the same spot you sent us to?

I am comming that way for a Dec 4 3day Wonder and a 7 day Magic Jan 3. I wanted to stop by and say hi and see the manatees again.

Thought I would give this a bump as possibly more people would like to see the info.

Great info! Thanks so much for all of you for your input.

One quick question, would you take your children to the Sunset and street vendors in Mallory Square? My DSs are 11 and 9, They have not led sheltered lives, but I don't want to expose them to anything to out there. We will be there on Sunday April 25th.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tandy

We have seen it from mallory square and our balcony on the ship.

We of course..liked it best from our balcony.

The sunset at Key West was one of my most memorable experiences of our western cruise (first cruise ever).

We wandered around the little stalls and entertainers at Mallory Square and managed to get a space sitting right at the waters edge next to where the disney ship docks. The atmosphere was great.

At the last bit of sun disappeared over the horizon the captain of the Magic sounded the horn and then as if on cue a dolphin came out of the water just in front of us then went straight back in :teeth:

Everyone was asking was it a disney dolphin as it happened exactly at the right time.

I'm just wondering if anything on the next cruise will top that.

Tandyc, we took our two kids (then 4 and 2) to watch the sunset and all the street performers one evening in December and found nothing objectionable (of course, our kids were probably too young to notice much anyway, but we did keep a lookout). We all thoroughly enjoyed everything--loved the unicycle guy and the flying cats! It was crowded but well worth our time; we made great memories there. I wouldn't have felt comfortable with kids there much after dark, and if you walk down Duval street the atmosphere becomes a bit more "adult," but Mallory Square in the early evening was just wonderful!

I have to give a plug for the Western Union Schooner Sunset Sail. We did this on 2/29/04, and it was AWESOME. If you have late dinner seating you will make it no problem.

There was music, conch chowder, and complimentary beer, wine, and champagne (and sodas). I get goosebumps now just remembering the excursion.

We missed our early dinner seating, but it was worth it. The sunset was beautiful, the other people on the ship were great and we got to see dolphins!

 MamaGriz myDS14 wants to do the Sunset cruise on the Union Schooner. He looked it up on line. Do you know if they put the Schooner somewhere else in Sept? I didn't find any dates of availability for Sept . Thanks, mamo:teeth:
