Sunrise Safari worth the concierge points?

DH & I just bought DVC and we have our 1st years points (160) to use and plan on a trip next year in June. Even with both years points, we don't have enough for a 1 BR Concierge level and I want to do the sunrise safari. Is it a good idea to spend 2 days (Su/Mo) in concierge studio then switch to 1BR savanna view for the rest of the week?

If this is a good idea, how do we switch the rooms? Is the food (evening appetizers) still good on concierge level? Are there any requests I should put in for a studio? Do all concierge level studios have a savanna view?

Thanks for dealing with my questions. I'm so excited about finally getting DVC and can't wait to book our first trip home!!

Actually the first question will be can you even get a concierge room for next June? It is well into the 7 months window and since there are only a possible 5 studios and 5 1BR's on the concierge level they are most likely booked.

If you can get the room then I believe the sunrise safari is only on Sunday and Thursday mornings. If you are planning on checking in on Sunday then you might not be able to do the safari or you will at least have to be there very early if they do let you book it.

We enjoyed the Sunrise Safari. It covers the same route as the regular AK safari but with stops and more talk about the animals. The breakfast is quite good as well.

The lounge is nice to get a snack from. I've heard that the hot apps have been decreased since we were last there.

Concierge level has 3 rooms on the savannah side and 2 on the pool side so you are not guaranteed savannah view. And there have been reports that they do not take requests any more for the concierge level rooms.

Moving is pretty easy. If your room is not available when you go to check in for the new room then bell services will hold your luggage after you vacate your first room.

There are only 5 2-bedroom lockoffs that make up the DVC portion of Concierge Level at AKV. At a max, there can be 10 rooms (5 studios & 5 1-bedrooms). 3 of the 2-bedrooms face the Sunset Savanna and the other 2 face the Uzima Pool. Because of the overhang from the roof, non of the concierge level rooms have a great view. As most will say, you do concierge level for the amenities not the view.

Ok, you guys scared me into it;). I reserved a 1BR Savanna view in Kidani for 6/19-6/25 and Studio Club Level for 6/26-6/26. I also made the reservations for the sunrise safari. Any thoughts on room requests for the 1BR SV?

I recommend that you request close to lobby and a lower floor. You can see the animals better from a lower floor and close to the lobby gets you closer access to the pool area and the community hall.

The Sunrise Safari is great. That said, DVC ought to give me the 50 points per night to get up at that unGodly hour, not the other way around.

We did the Sunrise Safari in October. We stayed 1 night in a concierge studio before moving to a 2 BR savanna view at Kidani for the next 6 nights. The only reason we stayed concierge was to do the safari, thus the 1 night stay. In my opinion, the safari part of the Sunrise Safari was fabulous! The problem is I'll never view the regular safari the same again. The breakfast was not that great; we were NOT impressed. Will I ever do the Sunrise Safari again? Probably not. But I'm glad I did it one time. Will I ever stay concierge again? Probably not. But again, I'm glad I did it one time. I just enjoyed my savanna view SO much more!

I did the sunrise safari a couple of years ago, it was awesome. The concierge level rooms are all on the 6th floor of Jambo. The views are pool (2 rooms) or savannah (3 rooms). At least 1 of the savannah views is handicapped, we got that one (got moved from a pool view).

We did the concierge level 2 years ago for 1 night for the sunrise safari. We really liked the sunrise safari, both the meal and the safari. We did not really use the concierge "services" while we were there since we were in the parks and had to check out of AK before we went on the safari since we would not be back by 11 am. We did use bell services to transfer our luggage and that went very well. Our kids enjoyed the safari and were able to see animals we had not in the regular safari ride.

Enjoy your time!

I thought I read the Sunrise Safari could only be booked at 90 days out? Has this changed? Looking forward to doing this during our Oct trip!

I think it's worth it. DH and I did it a few years ago, and in April DSis and I have a 4 night CL AKV stay and the Sunrise Safari booked!

You will like doing it that way to have the concierge at the end of the trip, but I would probably have wanted the 1 bedroom at the end of the trip so I could wash clothes before packing to go home. We have stayed CL several times, and our preference is to spend a few days CL and then the bulk of our trip in SV. We have not stayed in a Kidani 1 bedroom yet though....only at Jambo so far.

Ugh, I had to cancel concierge because my cousin will be coming with us (his first visit and he just got back home from a year in Afghanistan) so we'll be doing the 2BR standard in Kidani. There's always next time :headache:.
