SunPass and E Pass

I picked up a Sunpass to use when I have a rental car down in Florida.

I did notice that on 417, it says E pass.

Does E Pass accept the Sunpass for payment?

Or do I have to also now have an E Pass?

This is all starting to sound ridiculous.

Thanks for the help.

Ok, now I'm also checking... I saw online that some roads in Fl also now accept our E-Z pass.

Can someone, maybe from Fl explain all of this to me..???

Thanks

Chris

SunPass can be used on E-Pass toll roads, and E-Pass can be used on SunPass toll roads.

See this page: https://www.cfxway.com/e-zpass/

That page will have a link to a roadway map that will show which toll roads in Central FL accept E-ZPass.

  • E-Pass can be used on all roads in FL.
  • SunPass can be used on all roads in FL.
  • E-ZPass can be used only on FL roads that are signed for E-Pass, not on ones signed for SunPass. (Most E-Pass signs will have SunPass underneath in smaller type, and vice versa; it's the main signage that matters.)
If you have an E-ZPass in addition to one of the FL transponders, make sure your E-ZPass is not in the car, or is stowed in an RF-shielded bag.

Thanks for clearing this up.
Now I know the SunPass I have will take care of it all.

Good point if I were to drive down I would need the shield bag for my E-Z pass.

Why

If both transponders are valid for a particular toll, there's a (very rare) possibility that both may be charged for the toll.
Yes, the toll agencies recommend it.

There are a few other southeastern states that accept both E-ZPass & the Florida transponders, so the same would apply to your SunPass if you were driving thru them and use any toll roads. Those states are currently GA & NC.

GA is interoperable with FL & NC, but they don't accept E-ZPass (unless issued in FL or NC) on their toll roads.

So looking at the map here it would seem that the green part coming out of the airport doesn't take EZPass - so is it even an option if you're flying into MCO, renting a car and trying to use your EZ Pass to get to WDW?

The shortest route would not be E-ZPass compatible.

If you were to head East (towards I-4) on SR-528 from MCO, there is one toll that is not E-ZPass compatible. The toll plaza does accept cash.
If you were to head West on SR-528 and then South on SR-417, E-ZPass would be accepted up to (and including) the World Center Drive exit on SR-417. South of World Center Drive, ownership of SR-417 changes to the State of FL which doesn't accept E-ZPass.

I just ordered the E-PASS Xtra, which apparently works in FL, NC, GA and everywhere else where EZ pass works. Spent 18.50 and I am just going to leave my EZ pass home in MD so I don't risk getting double charged. FL said you could close your EZ Pass account but I have transponders on two other cars so don't care to do that and have to purchase more transponders.
Does SC have tolls? I didn't notice it on the list.

According to the SC DOT, there are only 2 toll roads in SC currently. One is the "Southern Connector", which is an 18 mile stretch of I-185 in Greenville county, connecting I-85 to I-385. The other is the Cross Island Parkway on Hilton Head Island. According to their websites, neither accepts EZ-Pass.

Thanks for the info. We plan on driving through SC a bit on the way back home. Staying overnight in Charleston and going to Columbia for a college tour.

You can exit the airport at either the north end or the south end.

The north exit goes to 436 north and 528 east & west. If you take 528 west to I-4, that is not E-ZPass compatible.

The south exit goes directly onto 417, and 417 west to WDW is, as you say, E-ZPass compatible as far as the International Dr./Epcot exit.

So if you want to take 417, there's no need to get on 528 at all. The roads at the airport are clearly signed "North Exit" and "South Exit."
