Sun Wheel in DCA-noone said it was the SCARIEST ride in both parks!!

Disney parks and scary just don't go together.

I've never seen such irrational fear over a ferris wheel cart that slides around like a swing. I used to think the reason why Disney parks never make any real thrill rides was because of the children. You know what, it's not the children, kids go on rides... it is the wimpy adults! j/k

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I was laughing so hard as I read this thread I could barely read it out loud to my husband. I don't like ferris wheels and can assure you I will NOT get on the "Wheel of Death" at all least of all in the swinging gondolas.

One of the best tips from this board!
:lmao: :lmao:

I actually like this ride but don't ride it every trip because the line can get long. The first time was a little alarming though!

Want to hear something funny? :rotfl2: My 4 1/2 yr old DS has autism and does not like to get on rides. He screamed on the carousel, Peter Pan, etc. We remembered that he liked the sunwheel as a baby - always made him smile - so we decided to get him on the Sunwheel again. He was not happy UNTIL we started swinging. He LOVED IT!!! He didn't want to get off! He loves swinging (for sensory). And that is sure some good swinging!:lmao:

Does anyone know why they would allow 1 year olds on this unexpectedly terrifying thing? It was our first trip to Disneyland since having kids (waited til the youngest was at least 1 year old) and our entire family (DH, DD, DS and myself) thought "Now here's a relaxing ride and we can get a lovely view too"... Little did we know! My young ones actually enjoyed it too tho' while I was just waiting for it to pleeeeeaze end!

I went on the Wonder Wheel in Coney Island in the 60's I believe that's where they got the idea for the Sun Wheel. NEVER AGAIN I thought I was going to go flying off the wheel

we just got back from DL DCA :cool1:
had a fantastic trip

just had to say
we rode the sun wheel
and were SCARED OUT OF OUR MINDS

we were on one of those that REALLY went back and forth
we could see that it did it from the ground
but MUCH different than being up in the air
and having NO idea *when* it was going to happen...
one time we REALLY felt like it was going to flip over
(w/ no seatbelts!)

anyone else have a similar ride?

it was so bad
we asked to get off after one go around!!!

 Yes..it is too bad you missed the Sun Wheel Terror threads before you rode..that thing is just wrong.

I need to know...does anyone LOVE the swinging gondolas?

My husband and daughter (age 5) did :confused3

I was going nowhere near it! :scared1: I rode Maliboomer and Screaming instead!

They even went back for more the next day! :scared1:

Thank the lord I never got on that ride...It's neat to watch, but I think that's about as far as I'll go. ;)

Oh you all now really have me on the fence about going on the Sun Wheel of Death.

Would I not be afraid if I am one who:
1) Loves roller coasters
2) could go on Tower of Terror multiple times in a row
3)Loves those "pirate ship" rides which go up and down so you constantly feel that dropping sensation

?????????????????????????????

:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I like it! :confused3 I went on with 2 DS's 11 and 5 in March. I promised DS 11 we would go when we went in Oct. 07 but the line was hours long, so we saved it for another trip. In March we went on during the end of the DEP. I would have had my other DS 3 with me but he had to potty right before we got on.

It was a great place to see the fireworks - I think that is the only reason my Ds 5 was not completely freaking out! We could watch the fireworks and he could be distracted. I couldn't let go of him though! When we got to the top and started going down we switched to the other side of the gondola and that seemed easier than "watching" where we were going.

I would definitely go again. But this time I want to try the stationary gondolas - because I think you go higher.

Wow...I had convinced myself that we would ride all the rides, even California Screaming...and I am NOT a roller coaster person....

Now! This thread scares me!

For the stationary gondola line, do you wait with everyone else and then it splits off or are their 2 totally separate lines? Are they clearly marked?

Ack...this may be a ride we don't hit.... :rolleyes1

Thanks for this thread! This definitely makes up my mind-stationary gondolas for us!

I like the swinging gondolas. For first timers the the first time the car moves and swings is a bit disconcerting but after that it is pretty relaxing and calming...however I get motion sick very easy and sometimes this affects me and sometimes it doesn't. If it wasn't for the motion sickness (and long lines) I would do it more often.

need to know...does anyone LOVE the swinging gondolas?

I'm considering including it on my itinerary on my solo day, but it's my only iffy ride.

honestly I don't love them because I find them boring for the wait involved........So feel free to give them a try if the line is short ! Very nice views.

When we first went on it, it was the four of us, well the first time it started swinging, my DS who is 6feet 200lbs let us in on a few choice words :rotfl: Then he realized there were no seatbelts, well I can't repeat what he thought of that ride, but it did give us a great laugh. We decided next time that the both of us would stand in line for one that doesn't swing.
