How much of IOA/Universal is in the sun? What attractions? Are most of the queues indoors?

I currently cannot wear any sunscreen or lotions due to a severe allergic reaction. I'm going to make an appointment with a dermatologist but it may not be until after our trip. Our dermatologists in town aren't taking new patients so I have to drive an hour to see someone. ugh.

Need to know how to plan. Nervous about this trip but don't want to cancel and disappoint the kids. If you see a pale white (hopefully not red!) chick with floppy hat and huge umbrella, might be me!

Almost all of them are indoors or under cover.:thumbsup2

There are plenty of places at IOA to rest and get out of the sun. Make sure you stay hydrated if you're going over the summer. The worst part is walking from CityWalk to the parks but luckily it's not far.

Great post DM!

I got a wicked sunburn when I lost my sunscreen and figured one day without it wouldn't be too bad.:headache: A light long sleeved shirt would've saved my shoulders and arms.

To add to DM's post...Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue -- the queue (it's not really a line, just a mass of people waiting) is outside, but the theater for the show itself is covered, although outside.

Better yet, they have clothing with SPF protection in the fabric now...

Yes, I'd invest in this. You could even wear thin white gloves and people in the park would speculate that you were an eccentric, Howard Hughes type germaphobe. You could add a few odd affectations and you'd be almost like another attraction. It'd be awesome. You're away from home, so you don't even have to worry about embarrassing the kids in front of anyone they'll have to see again. ;)

But seriously, it seems like some SPF clothing could save the trip for you and your family. Good luck. I hope the issue resolves itself before you go.

We r family of 4. 2 adults and 2 kids (4 and 6) going to universal in few days.Brown skin.Don't have much experience with too much sun.Which sunscreen should we go for?

Anymore suggestions to keep ourselves protected from heat will be good as we are going in month of JUN.(specially for kids)

Thanks

My husband's doctor recommended this for our USO trip in 10 days because he is on an antibiotic that would make his already fair skin even more apt to burn!

I think this would be a must if you can't wear sunscreen! That Florida sun is intense! Just walking from ride to ride you will get a lot of exposure! A bad sunburn could ruin your trip! Seeing all of the sunburns I saw there last week is proof of the exposure you get. I wore SPF 30 religiously, sought out shade every time we stopped for a second, and still got a great tan while there (I am blessed with an olive complexion that rarely burns), and a bit of a burn on top of my shoulders where 1 time I missed slightly with the sunscreen! The clothes with SPF aren't cheap, but I wouldn't take a chance without them. Hope you can work it out. We had a fabulous trip!!!

SPF 30+, preferably the sport kind (sweat/water resistant). Reapply every few hours.

Carry a water bottle/refillable mug with you at all times. Consume lots of water/lemonade/tea/gatorade. Soda = bad in the heat.

Ride the water rides, but be mindful of the Fact that between 12-5, they have LONG lines (30-60+) Use ziploc bags to keep your valuable stuff dry.

Utilize the water play areas. Wear quick drying clothes/swimwear or pack a full change. The best water play areas are Camp Jurassic (guns/spitter shootout), If I Ran the Zoo (moat area), and Curious George (water guns/water effects, giant buckets that dump TONS of water when their bell rings)

Wear light clothing (light color t-shirts/short), a hat (it helps!)

Great answer. I always recommend the lotion sunscreen for first full application and the spray on stuff for when you get into the park. Spray on is great but it tends to miss a few things if its the only application method. Make sure you get a good face sunscreen that won't leave you feeling oily and miserable all day. I always use neutrogena or foundation with SPF.

Make sure you wash your hands after applying! Sunscreen in the eye or ingested is never a good thing.. yuck/ouch! pirate: why do you think pirates wear eye patches?

Because they were hit in the eye with a ninja star!
