My family and I will be going to Orlando in April. My son is less than 6 months, meaning we are not able to put sunblock on him. Just wondering if anyone has any tips on good items and products to get for him. I know things like put on a sun hat and keep him covered, but just wondering if there are brands/items that people would recommend!

After my oldest got sunburned when she was 6 weeks old, I started putting sun screen on all my kids when they were babies. That was nearly 15 years ago. She was under a tent but it wasn't UV protected I think.

I thought it was OK to put on now, I know it's the hands they don't want the kids gnawing on with sun screen.

I do use nuetrigena on my kids.

Our Dr said it's better to use than have a burned baby. We were told to use one that's titanium dioxide based.... Meaning it's the white one that reflects the sun if I recall. But avoiding eyes and hands.

Would check with your pediatrician... apparently AAP says a little is OK if necessary, but seems to be case-by-case. We kept our kiddo under hats/lightweight clothes until she was close to six months, then started using Blue Lizard Baby. She's got sensitive skin and that brand never bugged her.

I think one of the big concerns about sunscreen is the baby not being able to sweat and getting overheated. Our doctor said some sunscreen was OK, but we didn't really need it. We carried my daughter in a light Maya Ring Sling and that covered most of her up. Between the Sling and a big floppy hat, we found she wasn't exposed to the sun and didn't get burned at all when we went in August. Now, I didn't take her to the pool or anything and I made sure to check that she was shaded. We bought BabyGanics sunscreen, but I didn't end up using it at all. I would also make sure to have a sunshade for the stroller - do NOT drape a baby blanket over your stroller. It acts like a greenhouse and traps in all of the heat, which is very dangerous

Our pediatrician gave us the go ahead to use sunblock on our 3 month old son a couple of years ago. AAP changed their guidelines a while ago.

For our nephews and niece they were kept in light weight UV clothing (long sleeves and pants) and a floppy hat. If they were out for extended periods in the heat they were always under a clip fan to help keep them cool.

Sun protection is very essential part, as skin gets damaged very quickly and gets tanned which last longer.

I'd definitely check with your pediatrician. DS10 went on his first WDW trip when he was 5 months old and he's extremely fair-skinned. Our dr said it was ok to use sunscreen and to just try to avoid putting it on hands, since babies often put their hands in their mouths.

A great titanium dioxide sunblock is Thinkbaby, much safer ingredients than chemical sunscreens and I have found it to work very well. We took our boy at 5 1/2 months. I wore him quite a bit in our Lillebaby carrier and he wore a white hat with SPF. We made sure to put sunblock on his face, arms, hands, legs, and feet, which were exposed. He did not even have tan lines after that trip, so it did the trick. Keeping cool is very important though, the baby centers are great to spend some time in AC and avoid overheating.

Spoke to my paediatrician this week and he did not want us using sunblock on him just yet, so that overheating makes sense (plus he just has sensitive skin in general). Thanks for the tip about not using the blanket- that makes sense, but not something I would've thought of!
