Summit Plummet?

For our May trip, we're trying to decide between Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. I like water slides, but the wave pool and shark reef at TL are also pretty appealing. To me, the biggest draw at BB would be Summit Plummet.

However, I'm not sure if I would be too much of a scaredy cat for it once I saw it in person.:rotfl: For those who have ridden it, how bad is it? I like other thrill rides like ToT, RnRC and the mountains but... free falling seems kind of intimidating!

Is it worth it to visit BB just for SP? Or is it so scary it isn't really enjoyable?

We have been to both waterparks. Last year we did BB and I really enjoyed Summit Plummit. You can see far from the top of that ride. My wife did it but said that now that she has done it she will never do it again. It was scary for her.

Now that we have both done it we will probably stick with Typhoon Lagoon. The wave pool at TL is a bigger draw for us then Summit Plummit. All around we both like the scenery and the other rides at TL compared to BB. Summit Plummit was fun and scary but cannot carry the park for us. TL is better IMHO.

Summit Plummet looks pretty intimidating from the top but it look worse than the actual drop. When you're standing at the top the end of the slide look waaaay down there and the people look like ants. You think "This is where I will be ending up?". Going down the slide you are deep in that trough and you don't get quite the perspective of speed that you may be expecting, at least not until you get to the bottom and it takes some distance to stop. I do like taking the Plummet.

I think you ask a very good question. I would agree that SP is the big draw for BB over TL but is it enough? Last summer we went to one one water park and chose TL. I like slides but as has been said TL has a better wave pool and also has Crush N Gusher ride. Given I choice I personally would do TL but if I could be at BB right now I certainly wouldn't complain.

We've been to both. I have boys 13,11,7 and 5. We like BB better. TL does have the wave pool and Slush Gushger, but we feel like BB has more quality water slides in general-and that's what we go for. Lots of slide time!

I was among the oldest in line last year on my 40th b-day to do Summit Plummit. Get ready for a weggie. Scary? You bet. Over before you know it. Do it again? ABSOLUTELY!! WOOHOO!!:thumbsup2

A good friend that I went with didn't like Summit Plummet (and I'm a weenie and won't ride!). She thought you hit too hard at the bottom and also complained about her suit riding up. Her favorite is the Crush n gusher at TL, plus we both love the shark pool, so TL is always where we go.

I rode it once and the actual plummet is a great thrill. The scary part is the slow climb up, up and even more up till you get so high you can pretty much see every area of Disney:scared1:

If you can control your nerves as you wait then its great, if not well...............once you get to a certain point in the queue frankly there is only one way down.................wheeeeeee!!

I am a coaster junkie and will ride anything
However, SP scares me to death :lmao:
I know I would love it but I just can't bring myself to try it
I do, however, enjoy everything else at Blizzard Beach :thumbsup2

We went to BB in November and we didn't have any intentions on trying out the Summit Plummet. After riding having a blast on some of the other slides, we went back up (via the ultra convenient chair lift!) with the intention of riding the Slush Gusher (the 2nd biggest slide.) After reaching the summit and eyeballing the Summit Plummet during our chairlift ride, we kind of convinced ourselves to at least go to the top and see if we could do it. We knew we could back out if we wanted to. We didn't though and absolutely LOVED IT!

My wife, who had already convinced herself of backing out braved the slide and was on an adrenaline high for about an hour. She LOVED IT and, had the park been open longer, she would have done it again. As would I.

Let's just say, this slide looks much, much scarier than it really is. I'm not great with heights, but because most of this slide sits upon a mountain, the stairs and platform aren't as high as it appears from down below. You do go fast though. I zipped down close to 60mph, while my wife hit about 50mph. But again, it doesn't feel as fast as it sounds either, probably because you are literally floating on water as you hug the slide. The massive splashing slow stop, can play tricks on your bathing suit unless you properly cross your legs and hands. We didn't have any issues.

I'd say, go to the top, evaluate it for yourself and remember it is always fun to try something new at least once in your life. Watch all of the various types of people and kids enjoy the slide and you'll probably convince yourself to try it as well. You'll LOVE IT!

I prefer BB to TL,mainly due to the overall quality of the slides and I prefer the crazy mountain snow theming. However at TL Crush n Gusher is one of the better slides at either park and the wave pool is definitely better at TL.The lazy rivers are both good but I enjoy the cave at BB where that frozen water falls on you.The shark reef is cool but be prepared for the cold water. The Downhill double dipper at BB is a super fun slide and one of my favorites. As far as Summit Plummet,It's definitely scary the first time you do it,the problem with it is how it usually has super long lines.

I'm terrified of heights. I'm ok on roller coasters but that's because I'm in a seat. If I'm standing on my two feet I tend to have panic attacks. Dbf wants to go to Blizzard Beach in September, but I think I'll be too much of a chicken to ride this.

Can't compare BB and TL - we didn't get to do TL last trip due to lousy weather - but if you do decide to do BB....DO SUMMIT PLUMMIT!!! We were there in November, and because my 9 year old got over his fear of heights and coasters this year, so did I - MY excuse for staying off those rides was gone once he started doing them, the little stinker :rotfl: . I uttered some very unladylike/undisneylike words at the top, but went with the idea that it would be over in a few seconds - which it was. I LOVED it - even sitting up at the bottom, raising my arms in the air, yelling "I DID IT!" (which the Photopass people got a shot of!) Rode it again afterwards, too!

To be honest, I found Slush Gusher worse - at least with Summit Plummit your butt stays on the slide - with Slush Gusher, you go airborne. I also found the force of the water at the bottom of SG when you're slowing down worse, as well as the wedgie. It really helps to keep your legs crossed.

But a word of warning - remove any and all jewelry - even things you think are safe. The force of the water (on Slush Gusher, I think :guilty: ) broke my tennis bracelet that I never took off. It must have snapped a link somewhere, because the reason I never took it off was the clasp was too hard to do/undo. And this wasn't a loose bracelet, but fairly tight to my wrist - so it wouldn't have hooked on anything or been loose enough to get a lot of drag from the water. So leave anything you don't want lost in the locker or back at the hotel.

Again, can't compare to TL, but I do know our day at BB was one of the most fun we had during our holiday - if you leave off the lost bracelet, that is!

PS: If you don't like water up your nose, make sure to plug it going down!!
