Summit Plummet can't be that bad, can it????

Summit Plummet is the one "ride" at Disney that seriously scares me.:rotfl: I have an irrational fear of being able to lean forward and just fall off the slide. I understand the laws of physics prevents this, but that is what my fear is. DS has said he will go on ToT with me if I go on Summit Plummet. Last night DS said after he went on SP the only time he went down it that he never wanted to do it again, but now he is changing his tune. Any tips so I don't chicken out? I want to overcome my fear and go down the slide - even if it is only once.

Realize it is only once. And that it will be over in less than 30 seconds. And that wearing a sensible bathing suit will be the best thing you can do all day.

I have the same fear of leaning forward and falling over too! Dh went on it one trip, he loved it and was clocked at 60 miles an hour! The only thing he did 't like was the wedgie he got. :lmao: it is a very fast slide and over before you know it but apparently very exciting too! To help overcome your fears (I did this with tot) take a look at the young kids riding it and having a blast. You will regret not doing when you come home.

I am a huge wimp. Everything scares me. I don't ride the big "thrill" rides. But I have gone on Summit Plummet (more than once!). It is kind of scary to think about falling off of the slide, and if you sit at the top, you cannot see the slide :scared1: But you HAVE to lay down, there is a specific way that you have to go down the slide, and when you actually go down, you don't get that "I'm going to fall off" feeling. It is over really quickly. And I agree with PP about wearing a sensible bathing suit!

I'm a huge ride enthusiast, but this is the one thing that I'm afraid to go on in WDW. My kids have razzed me for chickening out after all the years I goaded them about going on roller coasters. Fortunately, I had neck surgery a few years ago and now I use that as my excuse for not being able to ride summit! ;)

I've been on many such slides that were actually shorter, but way scarier. I just did not get a true sensation of height due to the layout of the ride, nor did I get that sense of being able to fall off it like I have on other similar slides - and that was just fine by me :thumbsup2

I hate the water up the nose, personally...and it's hard to scream when your hand is covering your mouth.

Your going to roll your eyes at me, but my advice is "don't look down."
Seriously.
I'm very afraid of heights, particularly "unrestrained" heights. I can do airplanes and roller coasters where I can feel that I'm securely buckled in, but can't stand things like ladders or the very idea of Bungie Jumping. (Does that make sense?)
Anywho, I actually did this ride twice on our last trip (after being thoroughly nagged by DH and DS). Once you start to sit back, it's pretty hard to tell how high you are and you can't see the actual slide at all.
After that, it is 30 seconds of water spraying at your face and the world's worst wedgie. It's almost 'boring' once you get going. For me, all the nerves/excitement/energy were in the moments leading up to the slide.

You may think it feels longer, but from the time you go over the edge, to the time you come to a stop is only 10-12 seconds.

I rode Summit Plummet five times during my visit to Blizzard Beach and during the final ride I slammed hard against the side of the slide which resulted in a huge bruise on my right butt cheek that lasted a couple of weeks.

I'd post the picture I took, but nobody wants to see that.

I loved Summit Plummet.

I am a strange bird. I have sort of a fear of heights and the scary part for me is the climb and waiting at the top. I have no problem with the slide. It is a blast and the wedgie thing is not to be underestimated.

I rode it before I broke my leg. I'm guess I can't ride again... but me and my DD 7 went up. SO many people in front of us bailed. I went first, no biggie really, then I panicked about DD doing it... though she came down fine and loved it. THEN the little girl behind her came down and her nose was bleeding everywhere. Do idea if it was coincidence or not... but geez... it freaked me out some. We didn't ride again... then I broke my leg shortly after and we haven't been back. My DD is anxiously awaiting it to reopen and the weather to warm up.

I will ride any ride, except water park rides! You'll find me in the lazy river whilst DBF goes on everything else :) He loved Summit Plummet but had to give it a miss last year as he was recovering from a broken foot after just having his cast off.

Tip: Go early in the morning before there is a line.

I'll probably never do it again, but I did it, and I did it because I didn't have a chance to even think about how high up I was. DH and I went up, DH went ahead of me and went down, and by the time I got up there, it was sit and go.

I freak out with heights but I finally did it. The first part I just screamed and you knew when I hit the water because I stopped screaming. LOL But I will say that it doesn't feel like you are going to fall off at all. Unlike that 3 bumped slide right next to it (forget the name). That one you feel like you are being launched off the slide and it's really really really scary IMO.

But SP, was scary for like 2 secs and then the most scary part was that I was losing all of my suit (tankini). I spent most of the ride trying to keep myself somewhat covered and came to the end laughing so hard at myself.

I have never done the slide. I am too afraid of heights. On our last trip my husband did the slide and I waited at the bottom to watch him. While I waited I was mooned more then once by people getting of the ride.My advice is if you do ride you might want to adjust your bathing suit befor you stand up. My husband said the ride itself was not scary. Standing at the top waiting his turn was worse then the ride. He did get a large scrape on his bottom on the slide slide next to summit plummet. For him that slide was worse.

You won't fall out the sides, but you may well catch some air. It is short and quick, Spend much more time in anticipation than it takes to get down. :goodvibes

"Catch some air" - that doesn't sound good.;). Also, a 10 second (or more) drop seems like an eternity. Going to do some shopping for a swimsuit that can minimize the dreaded wedgie.:thumbsup2. Thanks all.

What I hate is that you have to push to get over the edge, then you have to quickly get arms and legs crossed. Yeah, good luck with that. Legs didn't get crossed and I had to pull my bathing suit off of my shoulders.

This!!! I am soo scared. Haven't done summit plummet yet!!! The hubs did it. There was like a 6 year old on line with dh hahaha. I split and did double dipper is it called? That's bad enough for me!!! I really DO want to do summit plummet but I am no joke terrified. Maybe if there was no wait one day. The wait makes it worse.

If you do ride it make sure that if you happen to have pockets, like my DH did, don't have anything in them, DH's trunks had a velcro pocket with out locker key and $20 bucks in there for drinks and things. He came down first and lost everything he had in his pocket and they will not let you over there to get anything that you lost for fear of you being hit by the next person down the slide, my DD came next and actually pick up our locker key, but we lost the $20, but it could have been worse. And you did notice that I never said that I came down the slide, and I never will. I have fibromyalgia and I am afraid that it would take weeks to get over that cause I know I would be a big knotted up mess before I ever made it to the bottom. DH was doing 68 mph when he made it to the bottom, but he said it wasn't bad, but he has yet to ride it again. DD was 10 when she rode it and loved it. U can do it. U can do it. I think I can, I thing I can.
