Hi everyone. I have been obsessively planning a trip to the Black Hills for over a year now ( I can't help it-once I became a Disney trip planner it has invaded the rest of my vacation planning!) I was trying to set up a trip out to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and had actually found a guide who lives there and gives tours. In your opinion, would this be appropriate for younger children or would they find it too boring or too mature content (Wounded Knee, etc)?
Thanks!
I think a tour like that would be more for older kids. Four years ago my hubby and i did a similar trip with our three oldest at that time they were 13, 12 and 9. Our son who was 9 at the time thought it was the worlds best trip and enjoyed every minute of it. He was really into the wounded knee story and seeing the artifacts in the museum and all that. The girls however were not at all interested. I think it all depends on the kids, but I would recomend it for the over 8 group, unless they really understand what its all about or are really interested in indian heritage.
We have since added to our family and have been to the Black Hills with the younger children, but we haven't done the Wounded Knee stuff with them yet. Kind of waiting till they are a little older.
My kids see alot of Indian heritage but right now even Custer Battle Field is a little much for 3 and 2. All my kids enjoy Crow Fair buts thats alot different.
