Part 6.- Wednesday - Our special day- what an amazing treat

Cast:

Me (21 + lot more)
DH (21 + lot more)
DD - Charys (7)
Gladys – Invaluable Sat Nav to keep us on the right track

Had decided today that we wouldn’t bother going into the park early for EMH. We wanted to let DD have a bit extra sleep and we had our very special treat lined up.
As you will hopefully remember if you have read part 5 DH had gone to discuss an issue with Guest relations at the studio that he felt was a serious safety hazard.

The outcome of that discussion was they had offered to make us ‘Stars of the Day’ the following day in the studios and would arrange a fun packed programme for us ending in riding in the parade on the float with none other than the main man (sorry mouse)- MICKEY.

Wow we had thought what a brilliant opportunity. Our original plans for today (our last day) were to have a leisurely morning in the park doing our favourite rides again, lunch in the Village, some last minute shopping in the Village and then a leisurely drive to Calais to catch the 9.20 Shuttle through the tunnel. But as we’d found out several times already this holiday plans can change and these were definitely plans we were going to change. No way were we going to miss the chance to ride with Mickey and we would risk getting to Calais in time or being able to get on a later shuttle without being charged.

We had not told DD what was going to happen but had decided to wait until we were actually in the studios for that. We were aiming to get to the parks for 10-10.30 and had to report to guest relations when we got there.

We got up and showered, dressed etc. I sorted out the packing while DH went down to the reception to book out and pay the bill. Due to the mix up with the rooms we were given a 20% discount on the bill which meant one night was almost free. It was getting better and better.

Everything was loaded into the car and we drove once again towards New York to park there. This had made it so much easier this holiday being able to do this and meant we didn’t have to fight with the crowds on the buses.

We walked towards the studios and reported to guest relations where DH showed a slip of paper he had been give. The CM immediately got on the phone and we heard her saying ‘The stars have arrived’. We were then told to wait until someone came to meet us. It was at this stage that we told DD about having a special treat that day but still not about the parade.

Within a few minutes a CM (Alex) had arrived and gave us all labels to wear saying ‘Stars of the Day’.

<embed src="http://apps.rockyou.com/photofx.swf" quality="high" scale="noscale" salign="lt" width="325" height="453" wmode="transparent" flashvars="imgpath=http%3A//img298.rockyou.com/photofx/2/2329/2329887/2329887_0bca825a1186931447.jpg&glitterp=false&roundp=true&sepiap=false&theme=sparkle2.swf&shadowp=true&bevelp=true&width=325&height=453&imageWidth=325&instanceid=14303656&userid=9422703&createDateString=Aug%2012%20%2707&username=%7E" name="rockyou" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer "/><br><img src="http://apps.rockyou.com/dot.gif?w=PF&d=13D37&c=1&id=14303656&=.gif"><a target="_BLANK" href="http://www.rockyou.com?type=photofx&refid=14303656"><img alt="RockYou PhotoFX" src="http://apps.rockyou.com/images/logo-mini.gif" border="0"></a> - <a target="_BLANK" href="http://www.rockyou.com/photofx/create.php?refid=14303656">Get Your Own</a><br>

He then talked through the programme with us. It was at this stage we told DD what the highlight of the day was to be. Her face was a picture and she spent the next few hours or so keeping saying ‘I cant believe I’m going in the parade with Mickey’

First we were to go to the Photograph shop in Studio 1 where we would have a photo taken. Alex came along with us and went in search of the photographer as the shop wasn’t open. We were then given the choice of a photo with Mickey background or Pluto. We chose Pluto. We were arranged and DD was given a Ratatouille hat to wear, DH an Indiana Jones hat and me a snake to wrap round my neck.

Once the photo was taken we could then go off to enjoy our day as stars.

The programme suggested times to do shows and we were to have reserved VIP seating at these shows. We could also go to the exit of any ride and get on when we wanted without having to queue. We asked if that meant Crush as well and were told of course. We had 20% discount off any food and drink in the park and 10% off any shopping (but as our APs gave us 20% this proved better)

First of all we headed towards Crush. I decided I didn’t want to do this as I was unsure if Id like it- Im a bit of a coward when it comes to coasters and its only this trip Ive decided I like BTM. The queue was showing 110 minutes but DH and DD went to the exit and walked in. They were taken backstage through CM entrances to get on. I stood poised with camera but wasn’t able to get a photo as it was too fast but they must have waited about 2 minutes. Not bad going being able to bypass a 110 minute queue. DD didn’t really like the ride- she felt it too fast and didn’t like going backwards. DH enjoyed it (said it was not as bad as Rand R but worse than BTM) but no way would he have queued that long for it. We then went to the exit of cars where we flashed our passes and they pointed out a car and allowed us to get on before they let other guests on.

It was time for our suggested showing of Cinemagique. We went in and showed our pass to the CM. He then showed us to 3 reserved seats removing the reserved sign as he did. It does make you feel important!!! We watched this show for the first time at Easter and really enjoyed it this time just as much. There was a lot Id forgotten about it so was just as surprised as the first time.

After this we were quite hungry so went to the Rendezvous des Stars restaurant (where else could we have gone on a day like today). DD had the childrens menu which offered a few choices. She had chicken and potatoes and chocolate cake (which was actually 2 Brownies served with a tub of Crème Anglais Custard) and another tub of smarties). DH and I went for the Menu Decouverte which consisted of a choice of 3 starters – we both opted for the assiette de charcuterie. We then had a choice of main dishes and opted for the steak with dauphinois potatoes and vegetables. DH then went for the chocolate gateau whereas I went for the Tarte aux Pommes. We also had coke- 15th anniversary style of course.

We’ve never eaten here before but found the food good and as it was self service you could actually see what you were choosing. We also found it good value especially with the 20% off.

After this we headed towards the shop in studio 1 to buy DD some Minnie Mouse ears for the parade. However they had sold out (well we couldn’t find any) so we went to the shop just inside the entrance where we got some and also some 15th anniversary tins of sweets for our DSs who we had left at home. On the way Alex saw us so came up to us to see how we were enjoying our day as stars.

We wandered towards Animagique (grabbing a few photo opportunities on the way) and again were shown to our seats. After Animagique we did Cars again – its one of those rides that just doesn’t last long enough.
We then went to do Flying Carpets. There was a bit of confusion here over where we could get on. At first we were told we had to join the fastpass queue but then another CM came up and said no and took us through the exit to get on.

Our final 2 events of the day were the stunt show and the parade which followed on from each other so we decided instead of going on the tram tour we would go to the restaurant in studio 1 for a drink and a short rest before the finale.

The restaurant was heaving as there was show going on in studio 1 so a lot of people were just sitting watching. We eventually found a table and DH went in search of drinks.

After a rest we headed over to the Stunt show. The CM – Henri- who DH had spoken to yesterday and who had arranged the whole thing for us met us there and took us through the exit. At first we were unsure where he was taking us then we arrived at our seats- nice comfortable directors chairs instead of the uncomfortable benches we usually sit on. We had a brilliant view and were able to get some good photos.

Unfortuately they had to restart the first car chase as one of the cars had problems which meant the show was running late and so we had to leave just before the end (which would have been brill as we were sat just next to where the final stunt ends!!!)
We needed to report to the parade spot and couldn’t risk being late.

We went along to the place we had been told by the gates next to Rand R exit. There were 2 other families there as well waiting to ride on the float including another English family however we were the only ones with Stars of the Day badges. The English family asked how we had been chosen as stars of the day and so we said it was because we’d been to discuss an issue we weren’t happy with and they said had done a similar thing and been asked to ride on the parade.

I thought we might have had to go behind the gates to get on the float but instead we had to wait right next to the gate where the parade came out in a small roped off area. This was good because we were able to see the parade as it came out without everyone else crowding in the same area. A lot of characters waved or came to shake our hands as they came out. DD had got her dalmation puppy with her and as Cruella de Vil came out she handed it to me to hide it from Cruella. I deliberately held it up onto DDs shoulder and Cruella saw it and pointed it out to her 2 baddy friends. She came over and said ‘Give me the dog’. We said no so she said ‘But you know I like dogs.’ Again we said no so she told one of the men to get it for her. When we wouldn’t hand it over they said ‘OK we’ll take the girl instead’. I was tempted to say yes OK at first but thought Id better not (Im not that bad a mother really!!!!).
We had very good character interaction from Cruella at Easter as well when DD booed her and gave her thumbs down sign. She keeps her stern look very well.

The final float to come through the gates was Mickey.

<table style="border-collapse:collapse;"><tr><td colspan="2"><embed src="http://apps.rockyou.com/rockyou.swf?instanceid=80214398&ver=102906" quality="high" salign="lt" width="426" height="320" wmode="transparent" name="rockyou" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"/></td></tr><tr><td style="font-size:0px;background-color:#fff; padding:1px;font-size:0px; filter:alpha(opacity=60);-moz-opacity:.60;opacity:.60;" align="left"><img src="http://apps.rockyou.com/dot.gif?w=SS&d=13D37&c=1&id=80214398&=.gif"><a target="_BLANK" href="http://www.rockyou.com/?type=slideshow&refid=80214398"><img style="border:0px;" src="http://apps.rockyou.com/images/tail_logo.gif"></a></td><td style="background-color:#fff; padding:1px;font-size:0px; filter:alpha(opacity=60);-moz-opacity:.60;opacity:.60;" align="right"><a style="padding-right:0px;" target="_BLANK" href="http://www.rockyou.com/slideshow_create.php?refid=80214398&source=cyo"><img style="border:0px;" src="http://apps.rockyou.com/images/tail_create.gif"></a><a style="padding-right:0px;" target="_BLANK" href="http://www.rockyou.com/show_my_gallery.php?instanceid=80214398"><img style="border:0px;" src="http://apps.rockyou.com/images/tail_view.gif"></a></td></tr></table>

The parade stopped while we climbed on and got our seats. We had to fasten our seatbelts and Mickey came to shake hands and check we had all got our belts fastened. We then set off. All the crowds were waving to Mickey of course and looking very envious at the children onboard. On route there was a parade stop where Mickey got off to shake hands with a few people.

<table style="border-collapse:collapse;"><tr><td colspan="2"><embed src="http://apps.rockyou.com/rockyou.swf?instanceid=80214757&ver=102906" quality="high" salign="lt" width="426" height="320" wmode="transparent" name="rockyou" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"/></td></tr><tr><td style="font-size:0px;background-color:#fff; padding:1px;font-size:0px; filter:alpha(opacity=60);-moz-opacity:.60;opacity:.60;" align="left"><img src="http://apps.rockyou.com/dot.gif?w=SS&d=13D37&c=1&id=80214757&=.gif"><a target="_BLANK" href="http://www.rockyou.com/?type=slideshow&refid=80214757"><img style="border:0px;" src="http://apps.rockyou.com/images/tail_logo.gif"></a></td><td style="background-color:#fff; padding:1px;font-size:0px; filter:alpha(opacity=60);-moz-opacity:.60;opacity:.60;" align="right"><a style="padding-right:0px;" target="_BLANK" href="http://www.rockyou.com/slideshow_create.php?refid=80214757&source=cyo"><img style="border:0px;" src="http://apps.rockyou.com/images/tail_create.gif"></a><a style="padding-right:0px;" target="_BLANK" href="http://www.rockyou.com/show_my_gallery.php?instanceid=80214757"><img style="border:0px;" src="http://apps.rockyou.com/images/tail_view.gif"></a></td></tr></table>

We continued and before we knew it was the end. We climbed off and took a few photos of the characters as they greeted the crowds and climbed on the float where we had just been and disappeared through the gates.

What a fantastic once in a lifetime experience it had been.

We headed back to the shop where we had left our packages behind the till and then to guest relations. We had to complete a form to comment on what we had thought of the day and reluctantly hand in our badges. We collected our photos- they had done 2 for us and very very happy, headed for the last time towards New York to collect the car, on route grabbing some sandwiches from the station for later.
We then started our homeward journey. As I’ve commented on another thread we made record time getting to the tunnel. Fortunately Gladys did her job well and there were no hold ups. We were even in time to go into the terminal building to grab another sandwich. We were then called to the train and drove the car on. The shuttle then actually left 15 minutes early- so not sure if we had been put on an earlier one although the letter we were given was right for the train and when we booked in it was our original time of 9.20 we were offered. The journey passed very quickly with us eating our sandwiches and very soon we were at Ashford where we had booked the Travel Lodge again for the night. We collapsed into bed for a good nights sleep before the long journey North the next day still unable to believe how the trip had ended with such a special treat.

Final thoughts/ Highlights of the trip were:

• Riding on the float of course and being Stars for the day

• POTC
• BTM- I now like this ride
• Buzz
• EMH- worth the early mornings
• APs – Having 5 days in the park, money off meals and shopping, being able to park for free and avoid the free for all buses
• Tea party
• Hardly queueing at all even though the park was so crowded (longest we queued was 20 minutes on one occasion and 10 minutes on another)
• Loads and loads of other things but the post is too long already so …..

What a great way to end your holiday and a wonderful surprise for DD :)

Absolutely brilliant end to your holiday, I was very envious!

On our first two trips, we were randomly picked to ride the float with Mickey...it really is great fun. Had to avoid the Studios parade on the recent trip though, as I couldn't imagine us being that lucky a third time and I'm sure my kids think it's the norm:rotfl2:

What a fabulous treat for you all and such lovely memories!! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Shame your trip is over ~ I've really enjoyed your reports. :)
