Summer Trip to WDW - need advice

DH just found out that he has a conference at the Hilton in Downtown Disney at the end of June so we have decided to use this an excuse to take the kids (4 & 6) back to WDW. We have been to WDW almost every year for the last 5 years but we always go between Jan and March. I am a little nervous about taking the kids to the park by myself when it is so crowded. Are there fun things to do that dont involve actually going into the park? Or can be done without long lines? My kids love the characters but are not as excited about the rides. DS is a huge Pirates of the Caribean fan and DD is huge princess fan so I was hoping I could find something that I could do on those lines. Im also looking for any recommendations on character meals that are not inside the park.

You could check into the pirate cruise that they have for your ds and bibiddi bobiddi boutique for you dd. These are the only things I can think of right now that are not in parks themselves. Character dinig at the resorts chef mickeys in the comtemporary for B and D, Ohana's breakfast has lilo and stitch at the poly, Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club has a character breakfast. 1900 at GF has Alice and Mad Hatter as well as mary poppins this one is going to be rehabed so it will not be a buffet but a preplated menu.

I just signed DS up for the Pirate cruise and DD up for the Alice in Wonderland tea party. Now I just need to figure out a few other things for us to do. I think we might spend a lot of time around the pool.
