Summer time attendance spike?

I made my FP for my May trip. No idea is it will happen or not, but proceeding as though it is. I do have some flexibility over the summer. I don’t particularly want to go then, but will if that’s what it comes down to.

My rebooking concern is that I bought tickets before the price increase. So I worry about the cost increase if I have to buy new tickets. Applying the cost is great, but it won’t get me the same number of days under the new price structure.

We have a trip planned for mid-August (we normally plan a visit at this time). However, I haven’t booked a flight yet and am hedging a bit about doing so. DH and I are considered high-risk, so we’re watching how this situation plays out. Luckily, we are DVC members and have some time before making our decision. Staying safe is the first priority right now - Godspeed to all.

Summer in Orlando is miserable no matter how you cut it. Pure hell.
You better believe crowds will spike this year. All these postponed trips from a few months will definitely bleed over to summer. Double-whammy and a huge nope from me.

We originally had a trip planned from 6/28-7/11. We were going to sandwich a DCL cruise from 7/1-7/5 in the middle. I've been checking DVC availability randomly and it seems pretty limited, and there are limited ADRs as well. Most crowd trackers have "insane" crowds listed for most of the trip.

We wound up canceling the cruise (not b/c of COVID-19, it's something we were considering before anyway) and rescheduled our room for 6/28-7/9.

Now that they've extended AP expirations for as long as the parks are closed, we'd be able to go in August again like we did last year. There looks to be a lot more DVC availability in August compared to our original trip. If they wind up closing our school for an extended period b/c of corona, that could also impact our 6/28 date since our kids end school on 6/26.

I think it's too early to tell how summer vacation travel might be impacted. Some people who are economically impacted may not be able to travel at all. Maybe lots of things get pushed back because quarantines and lockdowns extend longer than people initially thought.

I agree. I think the likelihood is very, very high that we won't be back to business as usual in 2 weeks. I'm not really very confident my mid-May trip is happening, either. Fingers crossed it will, but the more I read, the more I'm convinced we're in for a long, bumpy ride.

I'm one of the March trips that got cancelled because the park will be closed. We've rebooked for June.
Thankfully our Disney planner got everything easily cancelled and re-booked for us, and while American Airlines was super wonderful I spent a LOT of time on the phone trying to get all of the flights re-booked.

So sorry, not sorry to everyone who is not looking forward to the increase in crowds from those of us who at the very last minute had to cancel our trips, lose our ADRs, FP, etc., that we have spent so long fine tuning. It will be a strange year for ALL of us and I hope that those who will have increase crowds in the parks will be gracious with the addition of those of us who had plans to be there while the park was closed.

I think some people will move to this summer, but I think the majority will move to 2021.
This. I think a lot of people will be too nervous too plan a summer trip for fear of further closures and/or virus (in addition to the people who always say "summer at WDW: no way!"). And I also predict that 2021 will be a total cluster at WDW.

I'm sure a lot of people are thinking that way. We are absolutely going on vacation this summer and fall. I really don't feel that there will be the contagion issues this summer. All previous pandemics that we have good recording of, back to MERS in the 60s, and flus, die off in, at least North America, as summer rolls around. However, we also flew out to Germany as soon as we possibly could after 9/11, since we were supposed to be flying out on 9/12. I would probably wither away if I couldn't travel. We also are healthy, relatively young and don't come into contact often with people who are at high risk.

They just announced that NYC schools are closed for about a month. I just canceled our cruise and changed our DVC reservation to mid-August. Hopefully things will be settled before long. Honestly, I'm just counting my blessings that these are my biggest concerns when others will have a much more significant impact as a result of this pandemic.

We've been AP holders since last July and I have to say, I haven't noticed much difference in crowds between the trips we've taken this year (July, August, November, January). It was busy each and every visit, so I'm not too concerned that we'll notice much difference in the crowds this summer over what they've been. But I bet this Fall is going to be bananas.

I hope things are better for everywhere by then, but I tend to agree.
Oldest DD and I also have a mid-May trip planned. I booked a few FP yesterday for our trip but really felt weird kind of doing it since I feel like it's going to be canceled. Our schools were already closed until mid-April. Last night we got the notice they are closed until further notice. Many federal government agencies appear to be largely shifting to telework schedules.

(I did just book a room-only stay in August. We were considering a trip to use up some flight credits I already have from a different trip that needs to be booked by June.)

There is no way to predict what might happen. If a million people die from this, it might be years before people feel safe enough to travel. Remember 9/11? It took years before Americans felt safe again.

But if there is a very reliable vaccine, we could move on very quickly.

I agree. Just think if you are waiting in line and anyone sneezes or coughs next to you (or if you are the one doing it) for whatever reason. The theater seating puts lots of people together, as does the buses and the monorail. We are going to have to feel like we are past this to enjoy a vacation at WDW.

That being said, I was planning for our large family to go in December or January, and I'm still wishing.

We have an early June trip planned. Our school district added a week at spring break. I'm guessing our district, along with many others, will have to add on days at the end of the year going into June. I'm praying that will be true! Then our early June trip may be quite pleasant. (wishful thinking!)
