I can't believe I waited this long to do it...but I finally got a library card!
Currently I am LOVING :lovestruc Janet Evanovich - On #4 of the Stephanie Plum series. These books keep me up until 2:00am reading! I can't put them down!
I also just read Judy Blumes Summer Sisters and enjoyed it.
Anyone have any suggestions for some other fun summer reads?

I LOVE the Stephanie Plum series and have read all of the books...they are so addictive.

I recently read Litty Bitty Lies by Mary Kay Andrews....it was really good.

Well... if you like chick lit some of my favs are....

Sophie Kinsella- The shopaholic series
Jennifer Wiener- In her shoes, Good in Bed, Certain Girls (she write a lot of good books)
Jane Green- Swapping Lives, Second Chances, Jemima J. ( I love all of her books)

Also I have not read these yet...but new releases that look like good beach reads....

Rogue- danielle steel
Married Lovers - Jackie Collins
This Charming Man -Marian Keyes

I LOVE to read...I usually read at least 2-3 books a week. I also frequent the library...I really like to search my library database online and then request books...especially since our library pulls books from all the libraries in the county and then delivers them to your local library for pickup!

The Hot Flash series is a good summer read. The books are by Nancy Thayer and there is The Hot Flash Club, The Hot Flash Club Strikes Again and The Hot Flash Club Chills Out. I found the books funny, easy to read, and the characters were memorable.

I love Janet Evanovich! She has published some other books as well as the Stephanie Plum ones. I also enjoy anything by Jodi Picoult, Sandra Brown, Carly Phillips & John Saul. All of these authors keep me reading all night.

Thanks to everyone who posted the great titles. I can't wait to hit the library.

Love the Stephanie Plum series!!!

I love this thread... I am always looking for new authors.

Great suggestions!

I'm also reading the Stephanie Plum series - gotta love Grandma!

If you like humorous non-fiction try some Laurie Notaro, David Sedaris, or Chuck Kloisterman. Always make me laugh out loud.

More chick lit - Meg Cabot, Marian Keyes, Maeve Binchy...

Our library has a summer chick-lit book club. You could try looking for some lists like this and get some suggestions.

Happy reading!

I can't wait for #14 in the Plum series to come out next week! Right now I'm reading Melissa Senate. She has several good chick lit books. Also, I love the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. Those are great!

another nod for the shopaholic series and also all of jennifer weiner's works (except the compilations, for some reason they just didnt really work for me)

Wally Lamb has two excellent novels (both were Oprah selections): "She's Come Undone" and "I Know This Much Is True"

Jodi Picoult has some good stuff. I loved "My Sister's Keeper". It's currently being made into a movie starring Cameron Diaz and Dakota Fanning.

I'm reading Chasing Harry Winston by Laura Weisberger ( the devil wears prada) right now. I just started, so I don't have an opinion yet. Just another thought for you.

I loved "The Other Boelyn Girl" by Phillipa Gregory, and I'm hoping to read the whole series before her newest comes out this fall. This FAQ answer from her website (www.phillipagregory.com) advises the best order for reading the series.

Q. In what order did you write the newest series of books?
It happens that I wrote the books out of order. But if you want to establish the time line of the novels they would go: The Constant Princess (Katherine of Aragon); The Other Boleyn Girl (Anne Boleyn); The Boleyn Inheritance (Anne of Cleves and Katherine Howard); The Queens Fool (Mary Tudor and Elizabeth 1) and The Virgin’s Lover (Elizabeth 1). And, to be published in 2008, The Other Queen (Mary Queen of Scots).

I have also enjoyed the "#1 Ladies Detective Agency" series, and they have the advantage of being totally family-friendly. I.e. I won't be embarrassed if my grandma picks up my copy and starts reading. :) I think that this page from author Alexander McCall Smith's website has the books in the correct order. http://www.alexandermccallsmith.co.uk/lda/index.aspx

Oooo! I do love to read!

Right now on my pile of books to read I have David Baldacci's latest, Runemarks by Joanne Harris, and Harlan Coben.

I usually prefer books by women about women in a series. Kind of like Nancy Drew for adults. So Janet Evanovich is amazing.

Another funny female dominated series is Sarah Strohmeyer's Bubbles series. Bubbles in Trouble, Bubbles in Charge, Bubbles Unbound, Bubbles Abroad. Almost as funny as JE.

I also like Tess Gerritson-Gravity was a real thriller. And Kate White has a few books that I have enjoyed. Kay Hooper has some paperbacks out that are quick, exciting, summer reads. The Dean Koontz Odd Thomas books are also gripping.

I just finished Blasphemy by Douglas Preston. Not as good as Tyrannosaur Canyon or The Codex, but still very interesting in a Dan Brown way.

A friend loaned me The Ruins-they made a movie of it. It was creepy and tense, but predictable.

I usually read about 2-3 books a week, depending how much time I spend on the Dis. DH knows not to bother me at the end of a book because I am not likely to respond in a timely manner, I get so caught up.

Any Sophie Kinsella books make sure if you read the shopaholic series u get them in order..

Confessions of a shopaholic
shopaholic takes manhatten
shopaholic ties the knot
shopaholic and sister
shopaholic and baby

And I just got done read The undomestic goddess from sophie kinsella Would def reccomend that..

currently Im reading dannille steels "Sisters" book its great too..

LOVE Janet Evanovich and Marian Keyes. Both have books coming out on the 17th - This Charming Man (as posted earlier) by Marian Keyes and Janet Evanovich #14!!! Have them preordered from Amazon and should be here soon:cool1: Love summer reading as it's the only time I really get to read! Keep the favorites coming! I usually get the books from the library, but buy books from these two authors because I love them that much!!:thumbsup2

Loved all of these. Jodi Picoult has some good stuff,I am reading Second Glance right now. The Lovely Bones by Alice Seabold was very good as well.
For those who love Sophie Kinsella's books Like the Undomestic Goddess, I thought that Skipper's Revenge (Julie Teahan) was similiar but I like the writer's voice in it much better, plus I thought it was funnier.
I am currently addicted to Gregory McGuire. I have read Wicked and Son of a Witch--I'm all exciteded to go see Wicked in a few weeks. Anyway I have Mirror Mirror and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister waiting for the school year to end! Can't wait to grab the sunscreena nd a hat and the lounge chair and read what I want to read!

I just finished reading Water For Eleaphants by Sara Gruen. While I would not have chosen this book on my own (it was this month's pick in my book club) I LOVED it!!!!!! I read it in one day. It was an easy read and very well written.

I am also a big fan of Jodi Picoult. I just love her books.

I like Sue Monk Kidd's two novels: The Secret Life of Bees and The Mermaid's Chair. I think especially the 'bees' novel is extremely well written and leaves you wanting more.

Another Jodi Picoult fan ::yes:: . I just finished reading 19 minutes, and while the subject matter was very difficult (school shooting), it was very well written. Not a light beach read though.

The Sweet Potato Queen books are hysterical :rotfl2: - they are written by Jill Conner Browne and I laugh out loud while reading them.
I also love Ellen Gilchrist and Harlan Coben.
