Summer Fun Pass $99 -2009. Non resident question?

I have done alot of research in a effort so save some $$$ for me and my family on our trip in 2 weeks. I was told by a family member that they can purchase the "Summer Fun Pass " for us and we can use it without a problem at the both parks.

The issue i am having is that i have heard and read that they check your ID to see if you are a southern california resident at the turnstile, and if you are not you have to go to the ticket counter and pay the difference right then and there. I have also read and heard of people that have used this with no issue and have a great visit.

I also called the Ticket hotline and asked 2 different cast members and they told me it would be no issue. But i am still scared that i will pay for the tickets and not be able to use them since i am not a So-cal resident.

So if anyone has done this process this year and can comment and let me know if it is a good idea. I would also like to hear if possible from some castmembers to see if they do check id when you are at the turnstile.

ps. they said that if you buy it at a local super market and get a actual ticket that Disney will not bother you since you have a hard ticket. (FAct or Fiction?)

I think you have a 50/50 chance of being able to use them. I personally wouldn't chance it (one time at a museum, some people leaving while we were going to the line to buy tickets tried to give us their stickers (they work as tickets with in/out privileges and I refused to take them, for instance), but if you do try, I would be prepared to pay the difference. And just b/c it works the first day doesn't mean it will work the second. Keep that money set aside.

And of course paying gate price, if you're caught without a so cal ID, means that you might pay more than you'd pay if you just bought passes at disneyland.com (though I'm not sure there's a discount on 2 day passes, which is what the fun passes are, I think). That would drive me batty.

So there's really no fact/fiction...some people get away with it, some people won't. But they're for so cal residents. I'm not one, so I won't get them. My brother is one...he still won't get it (he's weird...he just pays for one day passes whenever we're in town). But he's eligible!

You are right, that is my biggest fear is to get to the gates and my children be so excited and to be turned away. I would feel like such a idiot.

I am a So Cal resident and just got back from a trip using the $99 3 day park hopper pass (the one with the Fantasmic dragon on the card, yes)? At the gate, they asked no questions at all. I just walked in for 3 days at both parks with no questions asked. But I know what you are saying: I would call, get a name of a manager and then if there are issues (assuming the manager told you it was fine) you can follow up.

Totally know the feeling as I went with my daughter for her birthday and we picked the 6 ride fast pass as her gift (since we are season pass holders...why I didn't use my season pass but used the $99 card is another, irrelevant story). Anyway, point is: we got into the park on her b'day very late and so all the next day, every time I wanted to use the fast passes (that are only supposed to be used on the actual Birthday) I never knew if I would be able to BS my way into the fast pass line. Luckily, most CMs- who were at the fast pass line- were fine with my valid excuse. A few were sticklers but I was able to talk my way past them But it was an annoying thing to not know and be worried about being turned away.

Here is a previous thread on this subject. I would not take the chance. Many folks have been stating that enforcement is up and I do not see the savings offsetting the pain of being caught.

One person in the group needs a so cal ID. If your family is going with you, then no problem. Otherwise it just depends on the CM as to whether or not they check. Also, it's for 3 days, not two.

I'm sure that second bit is what the OP's family member is noticing. Hey, they CAN buy them, why not use them for others?

But the first part is the sticky part.

As I'm sure was noticed on that linked thread, burnt toast (who says he is a CM) mentioned that a So Cal resident can show their ID and get others in. So maybe if the family member lives in So Cal and wants to go with you every time you enter a park it could work! If not, probably not.



Good gravy, I forgot they are 3 days...why my brother won't do it and go more often I don't know! And HE is the one who got us into Disneyland again!

Thank you, i read all of the other post and it just made me more fearful. I would love to save about $300 for the tickets. but would hate to have to be turned away if i do not have the proper id.

My family member will not go with me to DL so I will be going just with my family, he hates the crowds and he says it is over priced. He doenst have children yet so he knows not what he speaks of. please forgive him

They have stepped up ID checking significantly this summer, especially when the turnstiles are not busy.

Every adult in the group has to have SoCal ID. Not one of two, not one of three, not two of four, but every single one. No SoCal ID is required for those under 18. If somebody under 18 is in the group, then only one adult has to show SoCal ID, and then everybody under 18 is fine to go. This is because Disney, like everybody else, is not allowed to ask minors to produce ID. This is also why they create the "8 per ID" rule. Otherwise, it would be easy for school groups to purchase these tickets with just one chaperone needing to produce SoCal ID for dozens of children.

All I can tell you is my experience. We bought two of the $99 passes last week to use Friday and Saturday for my friends who were visiting from the Middle East. We bought them at Ralphs--they did not ask for proof of i.d.--I was with my friends on Friday but not on Saturday when they entered.

No i.d. was requested at the turnstyles either Friday or Saturday.

My understanding was that the person who bought the passes had to be a SoCal resident but not that everyone who USED them had to be.

All that being said--I don't believe the disneyland.com disount is significant, is it? If so, wouldn't it be worth taking a chance that they do require i.d. and you have to upgrade on the day of admission--it wouldn't ultimately cost more right? And you just might save that $300 (and probably spend it in the park anyway!)

Thank you every one for your thoughts. i will just purchase the 5 for 3 and enjoy 2 extra days at DL and DCA. I am very excited and cannot wait for my trip to start on the 25th.

I and friends have purchased the summer passes for family and friends while they were visiting. Of all the times no one has ever asked for an id. No one has even asked where we lived.
