Summer crowds changing?

I think pricing is keeping some of the crowds at Bay.
We just had family come back and they said they added park hoppers to there 1 day ticket and it was over $500. And that dinner for the 4 of them were costing over $250.
The higher prices maybe keeping some away. Not a lot but it could have an impact.

Pricing is keeping our family away, we are Canadian DVC members and haven't been into the parks in quite a few years. We do resort stays with water parks. Visiting in August this year and doing MNSSHP for our 9 Night stay.

What about 2014? (Our last visit was very end of August 2014 - our next visit is in a couple weeks, mid August...) Will I think "holy mackeral" compared with what we experienced in 2014? (Trying to get my expectations in check...)

Thanks!
Probably. We went in 2013 and the crowds were a dream, then when we went the same time of year in 2016 it was a "Holy Mackerel!" moment for us. Crowds have changed quite a bit in the last few years, but I'm sure you guys will still have a great time.

We went in July 2009, Sept 2011, Sept 2013, May 2015, September 2016, July 2018. We did a Monday through Friday trip last week. Epcot felt less crowded because we are used to Food and Wine or the Flower and Garden Festivals drawing crowds, but attractions felt like they had a longer wait because people weren't being occupied by festival activities. We just did FastPass stuff and toured the countries to avoid crowds. We got into our Le Cellier reservation about 25 minutes after our scheduled time, so that was a wait that we didn't expect. Hollywood Studios was crowded, with Toy Story land packed shoulder to shoulder with cranky people the first day we went in the afternoon time slot. I went another day at 7am (EMH) and waited for SDD, which happened to break down. The wait was longer because of the breakdown, but manageable since there was shade in the early morning hour. I went on TSM with a short wait, then TOT with a short wait, then the crowds were flooding in the gates when I was about ready to leave at about 8:45am. I was fighting a mass of people walking in the opposite direction. We did Pandora for the first time... wanted to see it at night. It was packed. Left Pandora to hit the single rider at Everest. The rest of the park was more crowded than I'm used to in the fall. Then we made the mistake of coming off Everest as ROL let out (Dinoland path was closed) and that pathway was so tight that even after waiting 10 minutes, we still had to inch our way out. We didn't do MK on this short trip, but will do it in the fall on our next trip.
From our July 2009 trip, I only remember MK being crowded. I think the new TS land and Pandora are drawing people to other parks. So maybe the shift in crowds is due to the shift in attractions rather than seasons. I will say that I saw more "melt downs" from kids and parents while people watching on this trip. Buses were ok, but we had quite a few people standing on the boat from HS to Epcot when we traveled in the afternoon.

I've been collecting wait times since March 2017. All of summer 2017 was in the middle, if not on the low side. The trend is continuing for this year. However, June was a bit busier this year since Disney lifted the blockouts to keep people coming in before Toy Story opened. Hotels are still very pricey in the summer but if crowds are your biggest concern, then it's a huge win especially if you must work around a school schedule.
