Now that we're past spring break and Easter, summer is starting to feel close!
What is your ideal menu for a summer backyard cookout?

Mine is:
Hamburgers / veggie burgers with all the fixings
grilled corn on the cob
baked beans
broccoli salad
pasta salad
watermelon slices

And for dessert maybe:
strawberry rhubarb pie, blueberry pie, peach cobbler, banana pudding, or build your own sundaes.

I think every season we get to, I'm most excited about the foods that typically go with it!

Grilled chicken leg quarters
Smoked baby back ribs
Cheeseburgers with all the fixin's
Grilled half smokes
Grilled corn
Ranch beans
Potato salad
Caprese salad
Cole slaw
Three bean salad
Macaroni salad
Italian pasta salad
Pickles
Watermelon
Brownies
And beer!

Hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages...anything that can be eaten on a bun lol.
For drinks, its lemonade and iced tea. Also, white wine and coolers replace red wine and liqueurs
Desserts, any kind of fruit pies

Hamburgers
Hot dogs
Macaroni and cheese
Pasta salad
Corn on the cob
BBQ baked beans

And I love ice cream or a fruity cobbler for dessert!

OP, I agree with food seasons! DH thinks I'm nuts. But, I like what's in season when I can:
My summer menu is much like yours....add grilled chicken and fish, deviled eggs, green salad, berries.
My fall menu adds all the root vegetables - beets, sweet potatoes, carrots,- roasted. Plus winter squashes. Still grill meats when I can but some baking/roasting.
Winter gets heavier with chunky soups, chili, stews, lasagnas, baked Italian, cakes, pumpkin and pecan pies.
Spring is harder because nothing local is growing yet. Turkey, chicken, shrimp, fish, green beans, fajitas with onions and peppers. Lemon sauces and lemon pie or lemon bars.

Love BBQs the biggest thing I miss from not having a yard is outdoor BBQs with the chiminea going and fireflies sparkling as we shoot the breeze with neighbors... sigh... next house I hope.

We like same as everyone with:

Meat and cheese tray, plus tomato/basil/mozzarella on bread rounds with balsamic glaze
Tortellini salad, toss with cut celery, tomato, mozzarella chunks, black olives and Ken's Northern Italian Dressing
Festival Corn on the cob, buttered and sprinkled with McCormick Roasted Garlic Chipotle in the sprinkle container

we were just talking about this today, the stuff we look forward to eating so long as the weather permits (which equates to dh using the big green egg every night)-

salads/sides-
tabouli
watermelon w/feta and fresh mint (sprink of salt) salad
carprese salad
caribbean rice
bush's grillin beans
corn on the cob (with street corn sauce drizzled on)
grilled marinated eggplant

kbobs-
lamb frequently (moroccan seasoning)
beef (seasoned or marinated)
veggies-mushrooms, zucc, squash

steaks waved over grill (i like mine VERY rare)
grilled chicken (jerk seasoned or lemon seasoned)
burgers/brats
occasional-pulled pork, brisket

We cook outside, but we eat inside. We have burgers, hot dogs, sausages, potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, etc.

Salmon and veggies are a regular meal for me on the grill. I had some grilled watermelon at an event last year and I'm still trying to perfect that. It's really good if it's done right.

My favorite menu:
Hamburgers, hot dogs
Potato salad
Baked beans
Watermelon

I also loved grilled zucchini and yellow squash
Pasta salad with chunks of salami, cheese, pepperoncinis, black olives, red onion
Grilled chicken
Turkey burgers
Black bean, corn, tomato and avocado salad with lime vinaigrette

We usually make a mixture of cheeseburgers, hot dogs, grilled beef or shrimp kabobs, Mexican street corn, potato salad, macaroni salad, watermelon, pineapple, caprese salad.

For drinks, my family enjoys iced tea, raspberry lemonade (sometimes with vodka added in) and beer.

Recipe? We love Mexican Street Corn.
We do too. There’s a restaurant we go to that charges $5 per piece corn. 😮

So with this, you cook some corn however you like to, then put it on the grill for a minute or two just to char it a bit.

Then you get some of this stuff and slap it on there! It’s delicious!
(Mixture contains yogurt, mayo, corn, chili, cheddar and cotija cheeses - or you could make your own, you can find some variation of this same recipe in many places online. But this was very good and super easy, and it tastes like what we get in the restaurant!) We bought it at BJ’s, but they say it’s in dairy cases everywhere. Enjoy!

Thanks. Sounds great! Easy works for me. :teeth:

I like making pasta salads! I'll do the kind with Greek (feta, olives, pepperocini, artichoke hearts, red onion, cucumber, tomatoes) or balsamic (tomatoes, baby mozz, basil leaves, red onion, baby bell peppers...sometimes with pepperoni or salami bits) dressings. I sometimes do ones with ranch (ham, cheddar, tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli; or tomatoes, peas, bacon, colby jack).

i love this kind of stuff. my weakness is at some of our local grocery store delis that now have 'sample packs' for $6 where you can pick 4 different single servings of salads......so many good options.

We have a smoker, so definitely something like:
  • barbecue pulled pork on buns or ribs
  • baked macaroni and cheese
  • cornbread with honey cayenne butter
  • grilled corn on the cob
  • Caesar salad
Our desserts can be all over the place...Six-in-a-Pan, homemade Bailey's ice cream, fruit pizza, or Blueberry Peach Frangipane Galette

We also have an Ooni pizza oven, so if you aren't getting some kind of smoked meat served to you, then you are likely getting pizza with a side salad.
