LOL! Universal finally found a way to get me off Disney property

I haven't been to Universal in over 15 years, but I'll be doing it now for Adam Lambert

He is amazing live - his voice is out of this world and fantastic stage presence. There is a reason he toured in Europe with Queen last year to rave reviews.
Since it looks like a 2 day pass makes more sense than a 1 day (and I have a 14DS who loves thrill rides) we'll be leaving WDW for 2 days to check out Universal.
Any tips on "best" way to see the concert would be appreciated. I know that it is a large area where the crowds are packed in - standing only. How hard is it for short people to see (I am only 5'3" and DH is 5'8")? Any guess how early one needs to line up to be near the front?
I have no illusions about being in the very front - Adam has a lot of rabid fans who will be there first thing in the morning and will wait all day. It is "normal" for his fans to wait for hours or even days in freezing temps to get front row at general admission shows - they won't even blink at 10 hours in the Florida heat. He has been touring almost totally overseas for the last year (mostly Asia & Eastern Europe) so a lot of USA fans are planning to be there. Only a few USA shows have been announced (there is another 1 July 2nd in San Diego which was announced earlier, so that may slightly effect the number coming to Orlando - yes, they travel for shows - many even go overseas.)
Anyway, any tips on how/where to see the concert would be appreciated!
