I'm trying to come up with some "bucket list" ideas for fun things to do this summer. We live in the Philly suburbs, and don't mind little day trips, but I'm also looking for free/cheap stay at home ideas too... (i.e., catch fireflies, backyard camping, etc.)

Anyone have any suggestions?

Water balloon fight, s'more / hot dog roast, bubbles, sprinkler play, nerf gun fight, back yard bowling, nature walk, scavenger hunt, car wash day, lemon aid stand, bake sale, backyard camping, flashlight tag, disney movie theme night, pajama day.

I made a big list of things last summer, and one my girls LOVED and are already begging to do again this year was have ice cream for breakfast. They knew it was a one-time thing for summer, and it felt "naughty" enough to make it fun. :rotfl2:

We added a lot of crafty things, because that is what my girls enjoy. Plus things like dance party with neighbors, farmers' market (and try something new), visit a new park, planetarium (our local community college has a great one with cheap shows), see a play, etc. There are TONS of summer bucket lists on pinterest!

We live in a Philadelphia suburb also. Regal Movie Theatres have a $1 movie running on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10 am from mid-June to August. The $1 per person charge goes to charity. Last year, if you applied for their reward card which is free, you could get a medium popcorn for $2 when you presented it on Tuesdays.

The list of locations and movies is on the website.

Not sure where you live but you might want to pack a picnic lunch and check out Kids Castle in Doylestown. It is a huge wooden castle playground in a beautiful park. It is a bit of a drive for us but definitely worth it. Here is the link with the address: http://www.doylestownrec.com/info/facilities/details.aspx?FacilityID=12833

Ringing Rocks Park in Upper Black Eddy is another fun place to visit. It is a large boulder field. If you go, bring some hammers. When you hit some of the rocks with a hammer, they make a ringing sound. It is fun to experiment and will keep the kids busy for a while and it is free. There are some fun trails to explore there too. Photos are here: http://www.davidhanauer.com/buckscounty/ringingrocks/

Silver Lake Nature Center in Bristol has a nice nature trail and a small nature center to explore. It is a nice way to spend an hour or two. http://www.buckscounty.org/government/ParksandRecreation/Parks/SilverLake

Core Creek Park in Middletown has a great fishing lake. Bring the worms and your favorite fishing pole and you will not be disappointed. This is a great place to picnic and hike too. http://www.buckscounty.org/government/ParksandRecreation/Parks/CoreCreek

Have fun this summer!

Last year we did tye dying and splatter painting (ala Jackson Pollock). My son is not into art but he really enjoyed that. We've done dinosaur digs in the sand box (I hide plastic dinos) - we tried to put them in papermache eggs one time but that failed big time.

One thing that has been on our "summer fun" list for the past few years but we still haven't done is to have a pie fight. Also trying to explode a watermelon with rubber bands (google it if you haven't seen it before).

Make your own sidewalk paint.

I remember when I was a kid we had crazy day. We got a menu of stuff to do, but anything we ordered wasn't what it said (it was both food and stuff to play). So for instance we could chose to eat an "old shoe" but it was really a hot dog. And when we picked "do laundry" from the list we got a new game. We weren't allowed to use silverware (and we ate mashed potatoes for one meal). It was fun if I remember it after all these years!
