DDD with DDD - or - Doing Disney Different with Darling Disney Daughter
Part 1 – Getting there (a long, long night)

DD – Charys (8)

After getting everything packed we piled into the car and eventually set off at 7.30 for our extended trip to DLP to be followed by another 12 nights in Brittany.
We were booked on the 6.20 Euro tunnel but hoped if we were down South in good time we may get an earlier shuttle. Usually we book a hotel in Ashford but we had decided to be different this time and just to sleep in the car when we could. DH had had a sleep during the afternoon so felt refreshed and able to drive through the night.
We’d not even got to the end of our road before DD was hunting in her toy bag for things to do and to find which magazine I had bought her.

The journey was uneventful. We stopped off at South Mimms services on M25 for a toilet stop and decided to get a drink. DH then decided he was hungry and so started looking at the cakes and things. We then noticed Burger King so thought why not and ended up eating burgers at some strange hour – think it was about 11.30.
When we got back in the car DD fell asleep and I began to feel drowsy. I was trying to stay awake but finding it more and more difficult. I kept closing my eyes but not actually going to sleep. I think I was a bit frightened that DH would become tired and drop off. I had a real scare at one point – I’d nodded off and suddenly felt the car move to one side. I opened my eyes and we were on top of Dartford Bridge. DH was just changing lanes but it felt and looked for a second as though he had fallen asleep and we were going over the edge!!!!!!!!!!:scared1: :scared1:

Before too much longer we were arriving at the terminal and checking in. We were offered a place on the 3.00am shuttle and decided to take that. We parked the car intending to get an hours sleep but as we stopped DD woke up and seemed very alert – too alert for that time of night. DH was fine and said he didn’t feel tired but I felt exhausted. I curled up on the front seat but couldn’t get comfy at all. DD obviously wasn’t going to go back to sleep so we swapped places and I lay on the back seat while she sat and chatted to DH in the front. They reckoned they couldn’t sleep because of the snoring!!!!!! It must have been the people in the next car but I didn’t hear it!!!!!! :rolleyes1

We realised our letter had been called and so joined the queue to get on. I really fancied a cup of tea so sent DH to the machine in the queuing area to get one but there was no tea so instead I had a hot chocolate. I was still in the back seat and after drinking the choc I lay down again and fell asleep again. I was aware of driving onto the shuttle but was quite disorientated as at one point I heard the safety announcement but couldn’t work out why it was so loud that it could be heard from the car park.
Before we knew it we were in France. DD got into the back seat and fell asleep. I was trying to stay awake in the front but not doing a very good job. Gladys the Sat nav kept DH on the right road most of the time but at one point decided to fall asleep near CDG (Gladys not DH) Fortunately we have done the journey several times now so more or less knew the route anyhow. Before we knew it we were pulling off the A4 onto Disney territory.
We tried to wake DD as we knew she would want to spot familiar land marks on the road in and kept saying to her “ Look there’s Tower of Terror, That’s Newport Bay, I can see DLH…” but she just wouldn’t wake up.
We put a Disney CD on really loud but she still didn’t want to wake up.

When she eventually opened her eyes we were pulling into New York Car park flashing the dream AP- it was 8.30 French time. 7.30 UK time- exactly 12 hours after we set off. :cheer2: :cheer2:

Oooh 12hours sounds tiring just thinking about it-Looking forward to hearing more.

Oh you're brave - we live about an hour from the tunnel but aren't brave enough to drive!

I like your daughter's name, its interesting and pretty.

Looking forward to Part 2!

12 hour journey:eek: I'm glad I live in Kent:thumbsup2

Gret start I look forward to reading the next installment.

Blimey there was me thinking our 8 hour journey from the midlands was bad enough.

My DH always blames the snoring on me too!!

I like your daughter's name, its interesting and pretty.

Thank you - its Welsh and Greek and we've mixed the spellings of both. The only problem is we can never find anything with her name on which when you are 8 is a disaster!!!
We chose the name before we were married and then went on to have 3 boys. DD arrived as a surprise several years later so at last we could use it.

great start - look forward to the next part:goodvibes

What a great (but tiring) start! Looking forward to more!:)

Wow, a long night indeed!

Great idea doing it overnight, if you have the stamina, the hallucinations must have been very scary.

Off to read part two now... :thumbsup2

Wow now thats a long journey!! And i complained at a 4.5 hour car journey  Glad it went nice and smoothly though and that was funny about your DD not waking up even with the music LOL.

What a journey! I don't think I would be so brave. It is a great build up to your trip.

I laughed at the 'going over the edge' bit!!!:rotfl: I do that all the time ... I cannot stay awake in the car!!!

You sound so much like me, I wouldn't have been able to keep my eyes open. Excitement or not, I need my sleep :rotfl:

Sounds like it was a good journey though.

A wonderful start to your trip, off to catch up on the other installments now.
