This was just offered in the Vacation Magic email update we got this afternoon:

Disney Vacation Club is inviting Members and their guests to take part in the second annual Summer Block Party, an exclusive Member gathering taking place at Pleasure Island at the Walt Disney World® Resort on Thursdays from July 20-Aug. 31.

Members will gather with their Disney neighbors in and near the Rock 'n' Roll Beach Club and Motion clubs for two hours of evening fun (5-7 p.m.), including live entertainers, games, refreshments and more. Admission to the party is free.

As an added bonus, Members attending the party will receive complimentary admission to Pleasure Island nightclubs for the remainder of the evening. (Note that some clubs require Guests to be age 21 or older.)

"Last year's Summer Block Party events were big hits," said Disney Vacation Club Cast Member Carol Chukwu, one of the organizers behind this year's events. "It's a great way for Members to visit with other Member families and get a jump start on a great night at Pleasure Island. We're really looking forward to welcoming Members 'home' to this year's events."

No registration is necessary for this event. Just show up, present your Disney Vacation Club Member ID and get ready to seize the night!

Can anyone tell me what last years party was like? What kind of entertainment do they have?

I was just wondering if they were doing anything special again this summer for the DVC members. We went last year and my girls had alot of fun. We played trivia, carnival type games and got free ice cream and cotton candy!!! We also got a DVC pin.

the year before was the barbeque but for the 2 weeks we were there, it rained during that time and we all crowded in the BCV!! It was fun though. Met some DIS DVC'ers!!

My girls will be happy this is going on again this summer as they just asked me.

Thanks for the update, Doc! By the description, it sounds like it is open to guests of all ages even though it's on Pleasure Island?

For those who went last year...was it a mob scene or not overly crowded?

We went last year, late July and had a fun time. From what I can remember, you have to show your member card to get a wristband and get in. They started this about 15 minutes before it began. We each got an envelope with some goodies-a pin, 2 coupons for snacks being served such as Mickey Bars, popcorn, cotton candy, a door prize ticket. Ther was unlimited lemonade. An arcade was open for anyone to use for free as well as a few carnival like games outside. Inside was a DJ with dancing, free mini massages, door prizes given away,a baloon animal making guy, I THINK there was a cash bar. As for the crowds, the only place I really noticed it was around the carnival games. The other areas were very doable. All ages could go. I am glad we went although I remember it was very very hot in that area so we went back to the pool after the Block Party. If it was offered when we are there again, I would go. It was fun meeting people and the CM's were great.

I am so excited to hear about this! I will be there for 2 weeks during that time and my kids will love it-especially if they keep the cotton candy and arcade games! :cool1:

We went last year and had a ball. Each member of our group (me, DW and DD6) were given a gift bag at entry that contained coupons for ice cream, cotton candy and popcorn as well as some literature and a DVC light up pin. You were able to play the carnival games for free and were still awarded prizes (smaller than usual but the kids loved them). Then there was an indoor party with a DJ and entertainment. The highlight for my wife and daughter was a hula hoop contest. Also the best ballon sculptor I have ever seen was there creating Disney themed sculptures. My daughter got a four foot tall very realistic Snow White. There were also other DJ-led games and the trivia contest. All in all it was a great event. My advice would be to get there right near the beginning. We were able to do everything but it did get crowded later. Have fun!

We'll be there for the first one, July 20th.

Will be there on July 20th, had a great time at the previous block party. Also, don't forget about the free admission to Pleasure Island. We went to dinner afterwards and then stayed around to explore the clubs. Had a great time at the comedy club which my dd loved. Told her the summer block party is back and she can't wait to go back. Must be the free cotton candy, ice cream and the sugar high.

I would love to try and go to this during our Aug trip. But why do they wait until the last minute to announce the dates?? Now that we have to get our ADR's 3-6 months in advance because of the dining plan I already have a reservation for that night that I wasn't able to move. We'll have to pick between the two.

Sorry--just a pet peeve. We have to book the room 11 months out to get our home resort, and dining 6 months out, but DVC seems to announce the special things with less notice than that. It's like they don't get the advance planning you have to do to make these trips work.

OK, I got that off my chest--I feel better now ;)

I will be in WDW during this time with my MIL. Would I be able to bring her with me? Or is for members only?

pamjb-my mom came with us and she is not a member, but she was staying at VWL with us. I think the way they checked for member ID was through our room key that said member on it.

So would two teenage girls (17 & 15) be bored? Sounds like the activities are geared towards the younger set?

Hey Granny-I think they would be okay for a while. Two hours would be the max. At that age, maybe they could stroll through Downtown Disney and meet you when it is over (if they get restless). My DS was 15. He would have more fun with his brother there but he occupied himself in the arcade.

Karen...thanks for the info. If nothing else, it's one more WDW experience we've never had. In fact, we've never set foot on Pleasure Island! :)

We will be there Aug. 3!!

My teen daughter and her friend were a little bored but they did like the ice cream and cotton candy!!! They took pictures inside the nightclub that had the DJ and then later tried to convince their friends they went 'clubbing'!!! LOL!!

My younger DD's had a blast!!!

See ya there on the 3rd rbozzota!
We're considering doing the Comedy Club thing afterwards, as ng6ny suggested above. Would it be suitable for younger teens?

At the comedy club, they did were doing impromptu skits based on request from audience participation. My dd was 10 and she enjoyed it. Not sure how older teens may fare.
