Summer Bay Resort

Hello,
I just booked the Summer Bay Resort for 2/23/03-3/2/03.
I've never been there before and I was wondering if anyone
had any info on the resort and/or on the area surrounding it ?

The resort is located on the westernmost end of 192. This is a quieter end with Pulix (2) and other shops in close proximity. The restaurants in the general location range from fast food (BK and Mc D) to quite nice, Key W. Kools.

You will be able to take advantage of the Black Lake Rd. route to WDW. This road runs parallel to 192 and misses much of the traffic. It "t's" into Sherberth where you will take a left to reach WDW (near AKL and AK). Use caution when making the left onto Sherberth as your view of oncoming traffic is obstructed by foliage.

If you want to venture away from the crowds, traffic and general chaos, you can use Rt 27 north to reach a small strip mall with Winn Dixie and other shops. Or, if you head south on 27 you will have a range of choices once you reach Baseball City and Haines City (not far at all and an easy straight drive).

Can't tell you much about the resort itself, as I've only ever passed by there. From the outside it looks relatively new, neat and clean.

We toured there last year and the resort was gorgeous! The lake there looks really fun to swim in and the pools are very clean. The resort was quiet. The rooms were clean and spacious and the resort is brand new. We decided to stay this year. The phone staff and registration was quite poor when I made my reservations this year - I'm still not sure if we have reservations or not. My hope is that they are in another building and don't affect the customer service level of the resort staff. Good Luck!

We stayed at Summer Bay this past August. It was a very nice resort. For the two of us they upgraded us to a 2 bedroom unit. It was a very nice 2 Bed / 2 Bath Condo. As for staying there again, we probably wouldn't. It seemed too far out from all the action that we needed to get to.

Does anyone know if we will be able to swim at the beach in
February/March ?

We just got back and while the "beach" area is open the water is still a little cold.

A few questions about the beach.
1) Was anyone swimming ?
2) How do they protect against alligators
in the beach area ?
3) Were the "toys" set up (trampoline/climbing wall) ?
4) What was the cost of the beach area ?


1) Was the pool water comfortably heated ?
2) Any other tips about the resort, the units
or the location ?

Alligators!!! I didn't even think of that. I guess that WOULD be a concern, right? I odn't know much about alligators, but I imagine there is really not much they can do about them. We are considering staying here,...I will keep this in mind.

We just returned from our vacation which included a
1 week stay at Summer Bay Resort. If there are any specific
questions than I will answer them, otherwise I will include

I'd love to see your trip report! Where is it? I've never looked up a trip report before...didn't see it on the trip report board. I am very curious to know all about this resort. From the ads it looks too good to be true, especially considering we got a $119/night rate on a 3BR, which from what I understand is a 1 BR and 2BR put together. We'll be there for 8 nights, so I hope it is nice! are there any particularly nice views to request? Is their luau up and running? Could we spend an entire day there and have enough to do? Me, husband, 3 small kids and grandparents.

We just got back last night so I probably won't post the trip
report until the end of the week.
We got the 3 bedroom that you are referring to. We got the
resort through a timeshare exchange. I'm assuming the rate
you got is to get you to take a tour. We saw tours going through
the resort all week.
We went with 2 children (10 and 7). The fact that they got the
one bedroom condo was the highlight for them. They felt like
they had their own apartment.
The units were great. They were huge, clean, new, ect.
The pools were extremely warm (a good thing), large and
clean.
We were in building 407, units 301/302. I would recommend
a unit in the center of the building (that's where the elevator
is) and a view of the pool.
I think there was a family magic show one night but I don't
remember if the Luau was offered that week (2/23-3/2/03).
They do offer some organized activities but I personally would
have been bored if I spent the whole time at the resort.
I think I answered all your questions ???

Thank you! I will keep my eyes open for your post! Actually, the rate we got was through the Orlando Magicard. The regular rate on the room was $390...if you go through the Magicard it is $145 or $119. After a few calls back and forth to managers (we were considered "off peak" for the Magicard but "peak" for Summer Bay) they let us have the $119 rate. It must be the same set-up, they described it on the telephone for me as a one bedroom with a 2 bedroom beside it, sleeping 12 (we only have 6 & a baby).
No, I personally wouldn't mind taking a tour, but my husband won't do it.
