Yes. Opening day prices are typically the lowest prices offered. As the space onboard fills, prices rise. On a cruise that isn't selling well, DCL may offer some last-minute restricted fares, but, while they tend to be less than the prevailing rate at the time, they are usually still higher than the opening day prices. Rarely, the last-minute rates are lower.

We are not so patiently waiting for October 2017 dates so we can book our cruise and also our disney fairy tale wedding. It will be our first ever cruise too

Same here!!! Daughter's graduation cruise also! Got my taxes back and ready to deposit! It will be our second Disney cruise, but we are planning to do a 7 day this time!

If I were to book a 2017 cruise online opening day, can I then later (when I'm on my 2016 cruise) apply the discount and OBC to the already booked trip? Or are the placeholder/OBB discounts only applicable for new bookings?

You can re-shop the cruise once you get on board. If prices haven't went up high enough to not make it worthwhile to rebook it, they will cancel the reservation you made opening day and rebook it for you so you can receive the discount and OBC. I believe they can even keep you in the same cabin.

I think that depends on whether you are using a TA for the cruise you booked on opening day. When I reshopped while onboard, they could no cancel the original reservation. I had to have my TA do the cancellation after I finished the cruise. The TA was able to cancel the old, and switch the room to the new reservation.

I am curious what they have but I already booked our first cruise on RCL out of Galveston for 2017 spring break. We live on the West coast and are so tired of flying across the country so would love to see some great cruises from ports other then Florida. We aren't too interested in Alaska and we have done the Wonder Mexican Riviera.

Unfortunately, on the west coast, that's about all there is to do. There are no little island countries, as in the Caribbean to go to. We're pretty much limited in that.
