Sum of All Thrills? Ever try it?

This is often overlooked, it is in Epcot and is a ride design/simulator sponsered by Raytheon. I had read about it and when we were at Epcot last week, we were signing my DS up for Kim Possible and I saw it a bit down the hall. The robotic arms are pretty massive and move you around quite a bit.

Has anyone tried it?
If so, how long did you wait? How long did it take to design your ride? How likely am I to get motion sick? (I can handle "real" coasters no problem, but some motion rides like Star Tours leave me feeling ill.
I waited maybe 5 minutes to start "creating" my ride and a few more after that to "ride" it.

It was not exciting. Kind of a let-down.

There is a MUCH better create-your-own rollercoaster ride at DisneyQuest. Not surprisingly, it has a much longer wait...but that one is worth doing!!

I don't know about motion sickness. You sit in a seat with your legs hanging down. A metal hood is over your head and inside of it is a screen you watch that shows what you're "riding."

I can't wait to try this out on our impending trip. I had not heard of this read prior to reading this thread. Thanks for head's up! :thumbsup2

So, is this like the roller coaster maker in DQ?
We loved that. Is this different at all? Sounds the same from what you all are describing.

Is there an age that Innovations and this ride is good for? My daughter 7 I think would love it but most of you wrote about your older children doing it?

DS and I did it last trip. The wait varies. We waited about 45 minutes but the next day went back and the wait was 10 minutes. There's a limit to the time you spend designing. My DS designed the ride in about 5 minutes....that was the coolest part, IMO. The ride itself wasn't like a real simulator and I thought it was kind of lame. But, it got DS thinking about math and engineering and who can argue against that? I get motion sick but handle coasters fine. I had no problems on Sum.

BTW, people of size, there's a test seat I highly recommend you try before getting in line. Once in line, the CM would not let me get out and try the test seat. I am a size 18 and it was a bit of a squeeze. I saw several people try the test seat then decide not to ride. It was the only ride I did where this was an issue.

It's the poor man's version.

The one at DQ is pretty fun. If someone wants to create and ride a ride, that's the way to go.

I don't remember if there is a height requirement or not. My 6 year old did it and had a blast - but I don't think he did the upside down options. I went soon after part opening, and did a few times with little/no wait.

When designing, I think you start with 3 options - I seem to remember "Bobsled" being mild (no inversions, which my 6 year old did). I think my 9,10 and 12 ended up doing the fighter jet (with inversion). It is very clear from first step if you end up with inversion options.

My family also loves this ride. We try to get there before 10:00 and there is no wait. (In between Soarin and Test Track) It is nice that you can make the ride as tame or as wild as you want. It does make me a little claustrophobic (sp?) because it goes down over your head. There is a panic button though.:thumbsup2

Deb, you must miss this ride! Do you have any trips coming up?

I've done this a couple of times and LOVED it! The first time I was nervous, so we designed a course that was pretty tame and it was a little boring. The next time we went ALL IN and had loops and speed and anything else it would let us do. Now that was FUN! I do not suffer from motion sickness, so I'm not sure how it would be for that. I believe both times we waited in the neighborhood of 20 minutes. We went there when it first opened specifically to do it.
