How many men are dressed in suits on formal nights instead of tuxedos? I want my DH to fit in, but he's not all that interested in the tux. He agreed to wear it, however, if he would stick out like a sore thumb. Just curious!

If a tux is the thing, I think we should buy instead of rent. What does anyone else think?

Thanks!!! (Leaving on May 8th Western - Cat. 11 - hoping for an upgrade!)

My DH has one so he is going to wear it.

I'm just still not sure about son and stepson, who are 13 and 14.

The vast majority of men wear dark suits. The guys in tux look really classy, but they are a definite minority. Ditto for your sons....you will see a few boys in true formal wear, more in suits, many in sports jackets, and many in pants and polo shirts. For teens, whatever mom insists on is what goes!

My DH wore a dark suit, my DS(13) wore Dockers and a button down. Both fit in fine.

Thanks for the replies! DH is happy - he can just wear his dark suit and I will wear a black cocktail dress for both formal and semi-formal nights! Thanks bunches - that saves $$$ for shore excursions!

We have cruised 5 different lines, including Disney, and the only line my DH wore a tux on was Celebrity, to Alaska. On that cruise there were two formal nights, and the age group seemed a bit older than we were (45), and very elegant. That is the reputation of that line. Other than that his dark blue suit has been just fine. I sometimes make a wonderful vest to match something of mine......but I'm a costume designer by trade and have always done the "vests and ties to match the dresses" thing for my kids' proms too. Its fun, but not nessessary.
