So right now I'm shooting with a Sony HX9V and as much as I love it, I think it's time to move up. Now first let me say that I'm an amateur but I have a good understanding of things like ISO, white balance & aperture. I'm looking for something lightweight, with a good ecosystem & that can take great video too (and if I can swing it features like wifi & GPS). I've been looking at the Sony NEX series and really like the size and features, but the ecosystem is small. I'm not opposed to a full sized dSLR, but like I said earlier I'm kinda looking for something lightweight. As for budget, I'd like to stay under $1000 for a good setup. I may keep the HX9V as a backup shooter, but if I get a good enough setup I might be able to sell that to get a little more for the new one. As for what I'll be shooting, it's mostly portraits, landscapes & video, though I would like to get into some more artsy aspects of photography down the line. Thanks in advance for all the help!!

The Nex system is become popular enough, that the Eco system is growing at a fast rate. Tons of lenses are being made available with adapters. And Sony is releasing new lenses at a fast rate.

I love my NEX 5N. You can check out my DLR TR, I think what it can do is pretty awesome. They have some really great lenses too. I own the kit lens, 16mm pancake, and the 50mm f1.8 lens. The video hands down is incredible and now that the NEX 5R has a faster auto-focus, its perfect. I work at "Big Box Retailer" and just sold a customer the NEX 5R + 55-200 zoom lens for 899.99, keep in mind for budget if you want good video you need a better card, you're gonna need a case/bag, lens filters, etc...

There are adapters out there for the NEX line to use all the major DSLR mounts. And unlike when you use adapters with a DSLR like this they don't need optics (just a spacer) and you don't loose infinity focus. It really opens the options up for these little cameras.
