I had planned a trip to DW with DH and DD(4) for May and was all set to have it totally organized and do lots of preparation. Well, due to unfortunate circumstances and an unrelenting work schedule I am unable to do as much reading as I would like. I'm lucky we can still go - even though we had to cut the trip a bit short.

So my question is: I'd love any recommendations on places to eat while we are there. Probably won't go anywhere too fancy - maybe once - dd is used to going out with us and very well behaved...but we also don't really want to eat "fast food" every night. We are staying at the Beach Club for 6 nights mid-May.

What should we think about or not miss?

Thanks!
Hilary

hmmmmm so much food to choose from.

First tip: this website offers a great PS spread sheet. Print one out with all the places you want to eat and you can fill it out with one call the wdwdine.

Now you must eat at the hoop dee doo revue! This is at Ft Wildreness so its a good dinner on arrival day or waterpark day or MK day.

For you MK day, my top pics would be breakfast at Whispering Canyon at the WL (hop the boat from there to the MK). The Have lunch at Pecos Bills, best counter service at WDW. Have dinner at the liberty tree tavern, this was out best characture meal yet.

On your epcot day, have a late breakfast at your resort. I reccommend Spoodles, but I hear they dont do breakfast. The hit the WS when they open at 11, you can cover the ws by 2 and have lunch. Then while doing future world in the afternoon and evening (when all the crowds have moved onto the WS have dinner at the Coral Reef, arrive early and wait for a tank side table.

At MGM, eat at the sci-fi for lunch and the 50s prime time for dinner. Double yummie!

Make a PS for Rose and Crown for whichever day of your trip you can get a 7:30 PS, and ask them to note an "illuminations table" in the notes. Not earlier or later. 7:30 thats the magic time for terrace seating and illuminations viewing.

We were disappointed with dinner at the san angel inn, and whispering canyon, ohanas and brown derby.

Since you are at the beach Club, for your one "nite out" I suggest Flying Fish over on the Boardwalk, or perhaps Yachtsman Steakhouse if steak is your fancy.

Take the bus to the Magic Kingdom, then take the boat to Fort Wilderness, and enjoy a meal at the Trail's End Buffeteria. The buffet is very reasonable in price, there's a minimal wait, and the food selection has something for everyone. All three meals are served, so it really doesn't matter when you go. After your meal, stop over to the petting farm. Your child will love it. Enjoy! :)

A fast food restaurant at MK that has a nice atmosphere is Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square. They have good chicken and sandwiches.

If you've got time or have already planned a trip to Downtown Disney you've got to eat at Rainforest Cafe. We really loved it....the food was fabulous, the waiters awesome, and the atmosphere very entertaining. You should all love it!

One of our favorite places is Liberty Tree Tavern.

Our DD is 8 and has been going to WDW restaurants since she was 6. Instead of giving you our favorites, I will list hers:

Cape May Cafe--- dinner
50's Primetime Cafe---MGM
Hollywood and Vine Character lunch--MGM
Mama Melrose --MGM
Garden Grille--- Epcot
San Angel Inn--Epcot --lunch
1900 Park Faire--- GF-- Breakfast
Tusker House--Ak
Pecos Bills--MK
'Ohana-- Poly-- dinner

Places she didn't especially like:
Whispering Canyon Cafe

Hope this helps, from a kids perspective.

Very, very strong recommendations for two places already mentioned...Hoop Dee Doo and Liberty Tree. Hoop Dee Doo is just something you have to experience....and Liberty Tree quickly became our family's favorite (from our 13-year-old son to our daughters 9 and 5.) It is the classic Disney experience.
I would strongly recommend a Chef Mickey's breakfast buffet....noisy and a little nutty...but from a 4-year-old's perspective, absolute heaven! (Monorail going thru the lobby as you eat breakfast...very good character interaction.)
We were slightly disappointed with Sci-Fi and 50's Prime Time. Seems to us that it's geared more toward parents who remember drive-in theatres (in Sci-Fi's case)...and old t-v shows (in Prime Time's case.) My wife and I both enjoyed them...but our kids were really lukewarm on both. (And food at both places really nothing to write home about.) We prefer Mama Melrose at MGM.
Of course, if you can get a Cinderella's breakfast, yeah...it IS worth it! We were lucky to land a reservation on our last trip. And on our upcoming trip is a Crystal Palace breakfast...never done it...heard it's very good.
Have fun....and I'm sure your daughter will love it!
