I can't come up with a more concise title for this thread...
my main question is what do you all do if some in a party want to do a ride and others don't (not talking about rider swap)

on our HS studios day DH wants to ride RnR (he loves this coaster) both DD are too short and frankly not interested.. it gives me a terrible headache with all the banging around so we won't be using rider swap... I'm just looking for suggestions of what to do with the littles while DH is on the ride? is there a cool souvenir shop near by to check out? or somewhere to sit and get an ice cream? a quick ride we could tackle ourselves? I don't want to stray too far so we don't get seperated from DH

Yes, there is a souvenir shop at RnR. You get to it by going in a door on the left as you approach the attraction.

There are also several shops not far away that you could head to. Perhaps also check out the shop at the ToT.

The Beauty & the Beast show is not far from where RnR is located. If you time it right, you should be able to enjoy the show while he rides, although he may have to wait for you when he's done. He can use his time to grab a snack or drinks for the family nearby at one of the food kiosks or QS booths located near ToT.

The Lightning McQueen show is right next door and that show is definitely oriented toward the littles. It's quite possible that DH won't mind missing it. That's where I go when others I am traveling with are riding RnRC.

good idea! I don't think DH would care too much if he missed this one

I really like the shops at HS, just down the sidewalk from RnR there are several shops and if you turn the corner there are all the great shops on the Main Street there. Also there is the Walt Disney tribute (don't remember exactly what it's called). It's self-paced so you can go as fast or slow as you need/want. There are nice memorabilia like Walt's old school desk, you can meet and greet Sully (optional) and at the end you can watch a preview of the new Buzz Lightyear movie (also optional). It's just past the Little Mermaid. Not close but not far. It's a walk-in attraction, no line....

I will second @las3888 suggestion to wander through what is now called Walt Disney Presents", a tribute to and history of Walt Disney. Located in the Animation Courtyard this walk at your own pace exhibit chronicles the history of Walt Disney's life. The 15 minute film, One Man's Dream, located at the back of the exhibit is also worth the time. It isn't always shown as they sometimes show previews of new movies and attractions. If you are a fan of Walt, this is a must see exhibit.

thank you! as much as I love the parks I'm a huge Disney history buff and devour anything I can

You don't say how old DD is, but I would consider the LIghtning McQueen show. Its very cute and the Lightning McQeen animatronic is very well done. Usually doesn't have a long line.

sorry they'll be 6 & 8 they'll definitely like the Cars show 😀

You’ll probably have time for both Lightning McQueen and buying ice cream, to be honest. If he has a Genie+, maybe just the car show. I’ve waited many times for others to ride that ride and it always seems to take longer than expected.

And don't forget, there's a margarita stand right there as well, so a little something for you while you entertain the kiddies ;)
