Suggestions for things for fellow Disboarders to try in 2023 thread. Suggest things you would encourage fellow posters to give a chance next year. My suggestion for Disboarders to try next year is enrolling into a martial arts class. It’s a great way to keep in shape, helps the mind gain focus and helps reduce stress. Plus, everyone should know how to defend themselves. 🥋

When I read the thread title, martial arts was my first thought! It's been a great thing for us for several years now!

I actually love the idea of martial arts. Hadn't really considered it for myself (didn't know there were adult beginner classes), but I love Cobra Kai and it does look fun!

I'd say yoga. I was soooo skeptical before I started, but it really has done wonders for calming my anxiety as well as helping me stay in shape. And that too has programs for all levels, including chair yoga. I still can't do any of the crazy fancy poses, and for once in my life I'm okay with that (generally an overachiever, try to be the best at everything). Yoga helps me slow down and just be in the moment.

Tokyo Disney. Once you go there you will never be satisfied with the Florida Parks again.
If flights weren't insanely expensive, I would just go back to those parks LOL Ticket wise they're way cheaper than Disneyland and WDW and yet are superior to both in almost every way possible (Disneyland wins with the overall nostalgia factor, however).

We can fly to Toyko for less than $1,000 while MCO costs us $600+. Not too much of a difference.

I would say pick a financial literacy book and read through it and try investing if you don’t already or just setting a budget and getting out of debt. I handle all the financial stuff in our household and had been trying for years to get my husband involved. I got him to read rich dad, poor dad and he was hooked.

My suggestion is to join a book club. I've been in the same one for more than 10 years and love it. We meet at bars and coffee houses and have fun talking. I've met some awesome people and have read some books I never would have read otherwise.

If you do try martial arts, I’d love to know how your experience was. :-)

I second this suggestion! My wife started a martial arts class back in March and absolutely loves it. It's been great for her in all the areas Buzz mentioned above. She is training in Shotokan and Krav Maga.

Brag moment - at their year end banquet, she was voted most improved student. She was so excited.

Make your day a happiness sandwich, meaning deliberately choose something light and fun in the morning (TV show, toast with jam which I call breakfast dessert or fun music) and end each day with the same, if it is a thing that can provoke a laugh all the better. If you are feeling out of control make your bed in the am and make a cup of perfect decaf tea or hot cocoa before bed so at least there are two things accomplished during your day. Both practices give me an extraordinary amount of control over my moods, it takes a bit to kick in but it works.

Smile even when you don't want to, the action is known to release chemicals that will eventually make you actually happier. It also takes time but I promise it works, when I am sad and do this eventually I notice I am smiling on my own again. https://www.nbcnews.com/better/heal...-brain-happiness-boost-your-health-ncna822591
