we're leaving for DL in less than 3 weeks....and the thought of calling for PS didn't cross my mind until yesterday. anyhow, i was able to make lunch PS for blue bayou and then a breakfast PS for carnation cafe.

...but the more i think about it, i'm wondering if the blue bayou is a good choice. i've read great reviews about BB, but is it a real family friendly place? we're a family of 4 - me, dh, 2 year old dd, and will-then-be 8 month old dd. my 2 year old is in her terrible-2 phase, of course...so i'm looking for places that are family friendly. not that DL isn't family friendly, but for example, i wouldn't go to yamabuki with my girls right now (maybe when they are older).

suggestions? oh and i'm thinking of changing my carnation cafe breakast to lunch. we already have dinner ressies at rain forest cafe for our 1st night there. so i'm looking at possibly making PS's for lunch for thursday and friday (if i cancel blue bayou), and then dinner for friday. oh, and i am definitely open to other places to eat that doesn't require PS. i was thinking we could even do pizza for lunch at toontown on thursday.

suggestions anyone?

I love the Blue Bayou, the children that I recall from previous trips, had been well behaved, so, if your little one, is into doing her impression of a tiny ankle biter terror, and depending how your baby likes restaurant settings, you may be more interested in waiting until they are older. Who knows, maybe both children will be very calm, and quieter from some adults, so I won't say oh no, don't go, because everything really may very well go swimmingly, but rather, in the end after all advice can be given and information, it will be a choice that is best made by you,of course. Like in Dirty Harry, he says a man has got to know his limitations, now in this case it would be regarding tots.

I love that movie, matter of fact, I love all of the Dirty Harry movies, my most favorite one is the original :) I can tell you why he was nicknamed dirty Harry.

I like Naples in DTD. Good Italian food for the adults and good pizza for the adults AND the kids. In fact, their smallest size pizza - which is probably around $15 or so - is big enough for at least two people, depending on how much you eat. I was surprised at how large it was for a small pizza. Anyway, it is not always too crowded and you can get nice outdoor seating overlooking DTD. It is cheaper than the BB by a little bit.

It sounds like you and I have our eyes on the same restaurants - I also made a PS for Carnation, one for Rainforest and one for dessert only at BB. Then, I have Goofy's booked (you are going there too, right?) and Storytellers too! And I made a PS for Naples on the last day there but it isn't really necessary. They are not that crowded!

I don't have info to offer you, but I wanted to ask...I thought we couldn't make PS reservations for rainforest Cafe? Or did you just call them to make a reservation? We are planning to eat there while we are down too, but I was under the impression you couldn't make PS resies. Thanks for the info!

You cannot make the PS through Disneyland Dining, but there is a separate number for RFC and you call that and make a PS.

I thought so, too, but when you call the Disney dining number, part of their little recorded intro gives the phone number to call Rainforest Cafe directly and you can call them and make a ps. Their system just isn't directly tied into the Disney ps system. HTH!

Rainforest cafe (714) 772-0413

Maybe it's just my bad luck, but the last few times I have called for reservations at Rainforest, our time window was completely booked :scared1: It's not like I called the day before either... I was calling at least 3 weeks early.. I have given up :sad2:

I think they're really used to kids at BB; I mean, it's DL-- everywhere is used to little ones. We saw lots of high chairs and kiddos when we ate there. That said, you probably have the old standbys, like every parent who bravely attempts to dine out with the family... you probably have a "bag of tricks" with a color book and crayons, a couple of interesting small toys that she hasn't seen before, fruit snacks, crackers, raisins or something like that to keep her occupied till the meal comes... and one of you ready to leap up and take her for a walk when she gets too antsy. DH and I were just saying this summer-- how nice it is to finally have our youngest to a stage where she doesn't need to be taken out regularly before our food comes! Or after it comes and one of us only gets about half our meal eaten before she is just done with it all!

One other thing to consider-- youngest DD (5 at the time) didn't like BB and hardly touched her food. She said it was "too dark and creepy in there." Not that she was freaked out or crying or anything, she was just not really enjoying it. But that's probably just her.

thanks everyone for the information. the only reason we are having dinner at rainforest cafe is because my sister and her family will be joining us too....and my girls adores their aunt, uncle, and cousins, so i know they can help us out if one or both of them starts to get antsy. i asked my sister yesterday if she was interested in making PS's for other places for lunch and/or dinner, and she declined stating that they just will eat whatever is around whenever they are hungry (she has a dd10 and ds4).

maybe i'll just try carnation cafe for friday lunch (instead of BB) and see how that goes. we're back at DL again in december and maybe then we can try BB.

sherry e, no we aren't do goofy's. i contemplated doing a character breakfast or lunch, but since this is our first time to DL with DDs, i'm not sure how they are going to react. maybe in december?!

That makes sense. That is what a second trip is for - to do things that weren't done the first time, so, a perfect time for Goofy's! (Or another character meal.)

yep, i hope dd2 is okay with the characters. i'd love to do a character meal, but think it would be a waste of money if she was scared of the characters and not willing to interact. if she is okay with the characters, i think i'll do the minnie breakfast at plaza inn in december...she loves minnie. in fact, i think that's what she's going to be for halloween this year!

Do you absolutly need a PS for lunch at Carnation Cafe??? In all my trip I have never eaten there but I would like to try something new.

TIA

Just in my own experience, every time we have eaten at Carnation (without a PS) - for B, L, D and Dessert - we have had to wait a really long time in line because the seating is very limited there. So this upcoming trip I made a PS for Carnation to save us some time. Others have said that they get seated right away. We have never waited LESS then ten minutes, but we average about 20 minutes of waiting and we have even waited over 30 minutes - closer to 45! So it is kind of a gamble!
