My son will turn 5 in a couple of weeks during our Disney trip.

I would like to present him with a cake and be able to sing Happy Birthday to him while we are there.

His grandparents will be down for 2 days of our trip, so I would love to include them, which limits me to doing the cake at HDDR on Weds night or at Chef Mickeys for brunch on Thursday.

Any suggestions?

If we do it at CM - will the characters come over with the cake?

Will any of the servers sing?

Very open to ideas - thank you!!

I just called WDW and they said there are (2) options for cakes.

1. Order a personalized cake thru Disney Floral and have it delivered to restaurant of choice (very expensive from the quick peek I just took).

OR

2. Let them know at the podium that we are celebrating a birthday and they will bring out a non-personalized 6" cake. I failed to ask how much this was. I would have to cart the candles/lighter around in our pack to put on the cake, but that would be easy enough.....my other thought is "how much cake do we need at a buffet".....UGH. LOL

Has anyone done this before? I think I would lean towards doing it at CM - since she told me that they would sing him Happy Birthday at HDDR anyway if I just let someone know its his day.

Thanks

I've been at Chef Mickey's before for birthday celebrations and they have never sung. They have brought special cupcakes to us, though. There is a portion of the meal where everyone twirls their napkins and everyone celebrates, including the characters. Perhaps you could convince your DS that this is in his honor! :flower1:

At HDDR they just ask anyone who is celebrating to stand up. They do not spotlight individual birthdays.

Edited to add - the only restaurant I have ever heard them sing a birthday song is at Tokyo Dining.

We celebrated my DH's bday at CM one trip. They brought out a cupcake with a lit candle on it, clapped and twirled napkins and Goofy had a good ol' time indicating that my DH should now be walking with a can (turned 35 that year). Some of our neighboring tables did sing to DH, so if you instigate it or have a good crowd around you I bet you could get the Happy Birthday song in. And there was a special kiss from Minnie at the end.
My boys loved it - memories to last for a long time for sure!

1) Usually, characters will not join in a celebration.
. . . There are simply too many others celebrating "something".
. . . They do not have the time to spend with one person.
. . . Such would be unfair to others who would want a character interaction for their event.
2) SERVERS don't sing.
. . . They are far too busy running between tables.
. . . Besides, some SERVERS have voices like mine (mine has been compared to fingernails on a blackboard).
3) If you want something special, you need to plan for it and pay for it.
.
NOTE: Please remember, WDW cannot sing "Happy Birthday" as it is a copyright, and they would have to pay a royalty, just like jukeboxes do. Disney does not like to pay royalties (that is why Country Bear Jamboree no longer has a Christmas version of the show and HDDR changed two songs).

If you'd like more details on ordering cakes, there's a whole thread here: http://www.disboards.com/threads/official-disney-cake-chatter-part-iv.3261922

We had breakfast yesterday at Crystal Palace, our server Laverne presented my son with a small cupcake, candle and a birthday card signed by all 4 characters. She lit the candle and sang Happy Birthday along with us and the families next to us.

Tonight at Whispering Canyon Cafe out server Hajib presented our son with a huge cupcake and candle and sang Happy birthday.

So 2 meals in 2 days and 2 servers have surprised us with cupcakes and singing.

ETA: I never asked for anything, but DS was wearing his birthday button.

The servers at Trail's End are great about celebrating kids birthdays, they bring out some kind of dessert and sing. At Via Napoli they sing, they bring a tiny dessert thing with a candle in it.

Another cupcake and signed bday card at Tusker House yesterday. Server, Billy, gave him the card, lit the candle but did not sing this time. We've been very blessed with birthday wishes this trip.
